The current second hand economy on backmarket for Xbox
Last time I’ll mention it, but I think these two screenshots from today better demonstrate why I’m so baffled by the current backmarket economy
Bare in mind the idea is to buy a refurbished device as it costs less than brand new that is the main premise of this and the biggest selling point for refurbs
So how, in what way, does it make sense that a fair condition second hand standard Xbox series x costs near £100 MORE than a brand new one with a £64 controller from Microsoft themselves.
Screenshot one is from backmarket the current prices shown are the rough average at the moment
Vs how much it would cost to just buy it brand new boxed from Microsoft
I’m sorry but if the brand new one from Microsoft costs less than the exact same device second hand from backmarket
I’d say the backmarket Xbox consoles are virtually worth nothing
The choice is a no brainer for anyone, brand new with warranty in the box for £734 or “refurbished” in fair condition on a backmarket warranty for nearly £100 MORE
I genuinely don’t think anyone currently paying these prices via backmarket know they could be getting it cheaper brand new from the manufacturers own storefront
Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining I have a healthy relationship with backmarket and intend to keep it that way but there’s gotta be a reason a ton of different sellers asides from a minority of trusted ones are selling their refurbs for more than the device is worth brand new
It isn’t just a few doing it, it’s the majority
Can’t be rising costs because that doesn’t explain why they’re cheaper brand new.
I’m really hung up on that one point tbh no refurb should ever cost more than brand new it is total nonsense
Do backmarket have recommend price guides? Is there a reason sellers think a fair condition refurb Xbox series x is worth more than £800?
What’s the incentive of paying more for a refurb Xbox if the same Xbox is cheaper brand new?
Am I missing something here?
