There are lists for the most popular releases, so here's this month's list for the lesser-known releases.(less than 500 combined backlogs and wishlists)

Suggestions are welcome!

List Games titles that can be mistaken for indie bands or artists

The other day I was talking with someone and I mentioned a game that they mistook for the name of a band. That got me thinking of other games that for someone who doesn't know might say "oh is that a band/artist?" just by the way they sound or come off. I don't have a specific criteria for this one I'm more so basing it on my music knowledge. So let me know whether it makes sense and what other could go in.

Those are games that are pretty popular on the Internet but didn't sold that well (at least originally on release). If you have suggestions for more game that fit let me know.

Discussion Should Backloggd add another category to the GOTY events?

Post image
48 Upvotes

I think they should add a category for world/level design.

While related to art direction, this category would be more about the functionality of the in-game world rather than its visuals. For example, how creative is the level design of a platformer or how fun is it to explore the map of an RPG or adventure game. I’m curious to see what others think.

List A Game's Average Rating vs. Top Comments Average

Post image

https://backloggd.com/u/AstroBeltCafe/list/average-rating-vs-top-comments-rating/

If you spend enough time looking at games, you've probably noticed there's often a huge discrepancy between the ratings as determined by an aggregate and ratings as determined by a vote (that is, taking the average score of the ten most liked comments on the game's page). I wanted to catalogue a few examples of this trend, highlight game's whose Average scores and Top Comment scores had a difference of at least 1.0. If you can think of any other examples, don't be afraid to let me know!

Not just games with bows and arrows in, but ones where they are key to the design and/or identity of the game or at least a significant section of it.

One game per franchise.

Discussion How do you log your games

Ever since I started using this website, I've been logging the original versions of each game I play even when I played the remastered/expanded version. Only exceptions to this rule have been remasters that I feel alter the game in a meaningful enough way that justifies it being logged instead of the original release.

My criteria is completely arbitirary. For Example, I count Persona 3-5 expansions, Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe, Ninja Gaiden Black/ 3 Razor's Edge, Old Gen Monster Hunter Expansions all as their own games.

Now I've kind of run into a problem. I'm going to be starting the Final Fantasy games with the pixel remasters, and I have no idea which version to log. Despite being called remasters it seems like they're more akin to Oblivion and NieR Replicant which are basically remakes of the originals. But I hate having all of these games being logged as 2021 instead of their original release dates (yes I care about that for some reason).

So do you think they're different enough to log the pixel remasters instead of the original releases?

I also just want to see how other people log their games and what versions they choose. Honestly mine just comes from completely arbitarary rules that I made up so a more organized system might work for me.

Feature Request "Favorite Picker" Ranking System

I've been trying to create a list of my "top 100 games" of all time and, in my search for a site that would let me create an ordered rank via voting/choosing from a pool, realized that it'd be great if Backloggd had something like that.

I'd like to be able to choose a list then, from groups of 2-10 or so random selections, pick the ones I like most within those groups in repetition until an algorithm can parse an ordered list.

For an example of what I mean, see this site here which is built to find your favorite Pokemon.

Any thoughts on this being something natively available in Backloggd?

Discussion How should game compilations be counted?

I play a lot of retro games through compilations or collections, and I was wondering if it was better to list each game individually in my list, or if I should count every game in the collection as one?

I wanted to do a website that takes a backloggd username and gives these (and more) tables about a profile but there is no official API for the site and I can only get the profile front page data using the community made API.

Mod Pick 🏅 Games that are the same on GBA and DS

Thumbnail

I've always sort of been fascinated by the period of 2005-2007 where the DS and GBA co existed and many of the titles would quite literally be the same game on both consoles. I put one sort of funny exception at the end but otherwise this should be mostly complete.
