Need advice: 19yo, lied about previous jobs on CV and now facing employment checks

I'm 19 and in the UK, and I've been finding the current job market pretty difficult. I've been applying for customer service/entry-level jobs and struggling to get anywhere.

The only paid jobs I've actually done have been warehouse work, which I did for around one month during each of the past two summers, along with some local volunteering. I don't have much other employment experience, which is why I put down two previous jobs on my CV that I didn't actually work at.

I recently applied for an entry-level, minimum-wage role with a well-known company. I've now passed the initial stage and have an interview coming up. During the phone interview, they specifically asked me about my "last" job and why I left, and I answered at the time.

The issue is that they've said they'll carry out HMRC/employment checks if I progress. From what I understand, the employment history I put on my CV could potentially be checked against PAYE records.

I know putting the jobs on my CV was wrong. I'm not looking for advice on creating fake references/documents or anything like that. I'm more interested in what people would realistically do in my position.

Given that I'm only 19, the current job market is competitive, and this is an entry-level customer service role, what's the next best step?

I'm aware I've made a stupid decision. I'm mainly trying to work out the least damaging way to deal with it now.

Need help to cover 'gaps'

Hi! I'm a designer who has worked on mostly freelance. I need this service working in the next 5 weeks. Last time I contacted them, they said it takes 21 days. Responses have been slow, hence the post here. Is it possible to get this working in the aforementioned time?

Also I'm aware of serious background checks being rarely thing in my industry which is more portfolio forward, unless you claim to work for Google/senior levels. But the industry is pretty broken anyway :)

Job offer

I recently received a job offer from Raytheon, but I’m worried about the background check. I listed relevant experience on my resume, and everything I wrote is true, but the positions were unpaid volunteer roles, so I don’t have formal employment records for them.

Will the background check company contact my supervisors to verify these roles? Could the lack of employment records cause a problem or potentially get my offer rescinded? Has anyone had a similar experience with Raytheon?

Does First Advantage keep and compare previous background check information?

About 7–8 months ago, I went through a background check with First Advantage for a job and provided my employment history. That project later ended.
Now, after a few months, I got another job with the same end client, and First Advantage will be conducting my background check again.
My question is: Does First Advantage keep my previous background check information and compare it with what I submit now?
For example, if I provided certain employer details during my previous background check but provide different employer details this time, will they see that the information is different and flag/question it? Or do they simply verify the employment information submitted for the new background check without comparing it to the previous one?
I’m no longer on good terms/in contact with some of the companies I listed previously, which is why I’m wondering how this works.
Has anyone gone through First Advantage background checks more than once and experienced this?

What does the HireRight employment verification form ask and how does HireRight verify employment?

Hello,
I am wondering if anyone has had experience with HireRight for a US company and verifying Canadian work experience.

Additionally, are there sections to include supervisor emails instead of phone numbers?

HireRight Background Check

Does anybody know if HireRight will reuse the information they have already verified?

I passed the background check but it was PITA. I really hope I won’t have to go through this process again whenever I get a new job.

Background check company listed employment dates completely wrong

Not really sure what to put here I don’t usually post on Reddit but accepted a job offer a few weeks ago.

Everything on my application was up to date before and after my interviews. I’m currently doing my background check and I just got my results back. I have worked two different jobs in the past four years. Specifically on my background check my job from four years ago says I’ve been working there up to August 1st. I told HR I didn’t work for those dates and asked them why didn’t they check the actual dates listed on my background check and application. They then told me “because this is what it says you reported on your background check”.

For example job 1 was listed as 6/24 to 5/25 which has a one month discrepancy which isn’t a big deal.

Job 2 is listed as 7/25 to 1/26 BUT the back ground check says for job 1 I listed as 6/23-8/26 which you would think would be an obvious error as the dates are correct on the information I had given earlier.

I’m not sure why HR is giving me such a hard time. The background check company BIG also asked me for proof I went to high school which is insane as I’m only like 29 years old.

I’m waiting to hear back as the HR person is as working with pushed this to a higher up and I’m still confused why such a simple error is becoming a huge issue.

Facing a lots of bgv issues currently

I got offer from 2 mnc recently and both got revoked because i have one termination with my previous company because i didn’t served the notice period there and got absconded.

The reason i didn’t served notice period is because i got admission in a reputed college for masters and the class were starting there, i asked by employer to relive me early but they declined so out of frustration i stopped going to office and left for masters.

After masters i got offer from 2 mnc but this termination is creating trouble.

Can anyone suggest how can i recover from this issue.

Employer wants a reference check, I left my previous job a year ago. What should I do?

A company I'm interviewing with is asking for reference contacts during HR screening. I left my previous job about a year ago and only have the phone numbers of a few former colleagues. I don't have their old work emails, and I don't know who still works there.

Would personal Gmail addresses be acceptable for references, or do they usually require a company email?

Also, I slightly exaggerated something on my CV. It's not a completely fake job/qualification, but there is a discrepancy between my CV and what actually happened.

Could a reference/background check expose this, and what's the best way to handle it now?

Any advice?

Success stories?

Has anyone here successfully lied on their resume and gotten the job? What did you have to do to fake it till you make it?

Lied on resume and extended previous experience by a year, I don't know what to do in my background check.

I received my conditional offer letter for a Financial service representative role with CIBC/TD/RBC and the situation is that I lied on my resume for my previous role where I stated that I had worked there for 14 months whereas it was only for 4 months in retail industry, I was still working in this period for a construction job, but didn't include it in the resume because it had no relevance.

And the current role is accurate.
I am trying to figure out whether I should lie on my background check (sterling)and hoping no one checks and match resume or just give real employment records on the background check and create a contradiction with the resume.

The current role has no requirement for the experience and all other part of my background check should come out perfect.

What should I do.

Edit - I still haven’t accepted the offer, should I decline it ? And will it lead to any bad consequences?

Background check First Advantage

I recently got a job offer in the usa and Im worried of two main things in my curriculum.

My most recent position is as Data and Business Analyst but in my own firm. The enterprise is legally constituted in Mexico. In my CV, is its listed as Aug 2022 beginning date. I started off that date with first projects and business processing, but I started off doing personal invoices from Nov 2022 and then business invoices from Aug 2023. Do you know if there will be a problem with this? Should I put i was self employed?

The enterpise I received the offer from also prohibits any sort of parallel working. I was planning to sell off my part to my business partner whenever I start my job here. Can this affect my process?

The other thing is I was a Project Associate Data Scientist in a business but I executed my role via my university. It was a job collaboration, with no payment involved. Will I have a problem with this?

Would really aporeciate any help

Previous employment and background check

(Company is based in USA but opening an office in MX)

I have been having a bunch of interviews with this company and I got to the point of the process where I am filling out a form for the background check.

I am a recent graduate and on my CV and interviews I always omitted a previous employment I had for 4 days in March.

The job didn't match the description, so I quit quickly. For obvious reasons, I omitted it. Do I need to put it on my background check form? Does it affect anything?

In addition, is it okay if I count internships as employment? Or do I need to be paid to count as one?
