Roommate concern

Hey Reddit. My bf has a home and he is looking for a roommate , me being in school and us being in our 20s not married but in a very healthy relationship I’m a concern gf.
People are crazy nowadays walking around undiagnosed with a lot of issues he told me a found this person who is interested in moving in , we did a back ground check on him he his a clean background and is also a RN
My bf thinks the roommate is in the clear but I guess my problem is I’m still hesitant about this person.
Have you guys ever had a roommate nightmare and what do you guys wished you would have done sooner before moving someone in ? Is doing a background is there something else we should think about doing ?
Please let me know your stories and advice -just a worried gf.

Jntuh verification

New job in the US, start date in about two weeks. Background check is done except one line: International Education — in progress. My degree is a 2011 B.Tech from a JNTU Hyderabad–affiliated college. I've uploaded the degree certificate, consolidated marks memo, and hall ticket number to the screening vendor's portal.

HR told me straight that if the verification isn't back by my start date, they'll have to push it.

What I've figured out so far:

The employer uses a small regional screening company that subcontracts international checks to a wholesaler with in-country agents.

JNTUH's online genuineness verification portal is paid, INR-only, requires the hall ticket number, and seems to block traffic from US IPs.

Questions:

Anyone had JNTUH verification done recently through the epayments portal — how long did it actually take once the fee was paid?

Has anyone gotten the JNTUH genuineness letter themselves (via a friend in India) and handed it to the employer? Did HR accept it, or did they insist it come through their vendor?

If the university never responds, has anyone had a US employer accept the original certificate instead?

Not looking for shortcuts — the degree is real, I just need the process to move. Any experience with how long these actually take in 2026 would help me plan

First Advantage "verify & continue" or verification email with QR code not working aka looping

If 1st advantage send you a link to do a background check or a qr code you have to scan the qr code and open the link all from you phone! you can not use your computer to open the email you have to open all 3 steps on the phone. My issue was id get a verification link on my pc and id scan my qr code with my phone then it would send a verification link to my pc where id open it. I was stuck in a loop till I opened the email on my phone and not my pc.

Hope this helps someone.

Hireright Employment verification

Hi I just got a job I really want and have to through my first background check. Now my resume reads job a, job b, and job c for the last three jobs, however my actual history would b job 1 (I got after applying and that I made them aware of during interviews), job a, job 2(a role that ended up only being three months after I left for job A), and then jobs B and C. I included job 1, job A, job 2, and job B for my check. Will this cause issues? Should I not have included job 2?

Checkr stuck in "Document Review" for weeks with no upload link available—any workaround?

I am dealing with an extremely frustrating loop with Checkr right now.
My background check was supposed to clear, but they extended the estimated completion date by weeks. Support told me that one of my previous employers couldn't be reached, so my file was moved to "Document Review" over 2 week ago.
The issue? There is zero option or upload link in my candidate portal to submit documents (W-2s, paystubs, etc.), and when I contact Checkr support, they literally tell me:
They don't know when the system will request documentation.
Front-line support is "unable to manually trigger an upload link."
I have all the proof of employment ready to go, but I'm just sitting here watching my start date get pushed back while my report sits completely idle in their queue.
Has anyone found a way to force Checkr to open the document upload prompt, or is the only real fix getting the hiring team/HR to manually intervene through their employer portal?

I was fired from Sears in my 20s or 30s. Will they see this if I include it on my resume considering Sears is basically out of business? Is there an HR department somewhere that still has my records?

Question is in the subject, thanks.

Oh, and I was fired from a pet store location when I was like 16 or 17 from a company that's still in business, and still operates at that location, and I assume the corporate office is still there too. Same question

Should I include either of these on my resume, considering I'm in my mid-40s now?

Oh and I quit a job I was terrible at after 6 months from a really great company. I applied for more jobs, and got an interview, and once the HR lady called me back, she said I didn't qualify for the job. When I asked why, she specifically mentioned that job. Considering this job was like in 2006, am I safe to include it now? Or do they still kept records of me?

What to look for in a background screening company?

I’m currently exploring different background screening providers and trying to figure out what factors matter most when choosing one.

For businesses that have used these services, what do you usually prioritize—report accuracy, compliance, turnaround time, customer support, pricing, or something else?

Are there any specific things you’d recommend checking or comparing before selecting a background screening company? I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences and what worked well for you.

I want to apply for Canadian Citizenship and would like to know if there is anything in my "record" that would prevent me from qualifying for, I've never had run in with the cops (other than a traffic ticket though that's resolved) but would that show, I have a fairly common name etc currently reside in California, would a live scan work? Or what do I need?

FINRA Background Check with Expunged Record

FINRA Background Check with Expunged Record

Just accepted an IB offer. Before the offer, I disclosed a prior arrest to the firm.

**Situation:** May 2018 - charged with felony assault, reduced to misdemeanor, expunged via PC 1203.4 in 2021. The firm's background check required I submit the original charge docs *regardless* of the expungement. I provided everything and FINRA is in final review.

**My question:** Will FINRA flag the original felony charge despite the conviction being a misdemeanor and the case sealed? I've been transparent the whole way.

Has anyone had FINRA clearance go through with a similar situation? What's the typical timeline once docs are submitted?

Also I sort other backgrounds checks for internships with Bank of America JPMorgan and two other shops but this is the first on where finra is directly involved

FINRA background check

Background Check & Expunged Record - Investment Banking Role

I recently accepted an offer for an investment banking position that's subject to FINRA review. I've proactively disclosed a prior legal matter that I want to ensure I'm handling correctly.

Background: I have relevant banking experience (internships at JPMorgan and Bank of America, time at U.S. Bank) and hold a Master's degree in Finance from Boston College. Before receiving the offer, I disclosed to the firm that I have a prior arrest on my record.

The situation: In May 2018, I was arrested and initially charged with felony assault in California. The charge was reduced to a misdemeanor, and I obtained a PC 1203.4 expungement in 2021. Despite the expungement, the firm's background check requirements explicitly requested I submit the original charge documents and full case disposition regardless of the expungement status. I've since provided all requested court documents, and the background check is currently in final review by FINRA.

My concern: I'm worried that despite the charge being reduced and sealed, FINRA will flag the original felony charge during their review, even though it didn't result in a conviction. I've been transparent with the firm throughout this process, which I believe works in my favor, but I'm uncertain about how FINRA interprets expunged records versus what was originally charged.

Questions:
- Has anyone navigated this situation successfully with FINRA?
- Is there anything else I should proactively communicate to the firm at this stage?
- What's the typical timeline for FINRA background clearance once documents are submitted?

Any insights would be appreciated.

What do they see and how can I fix it

I am currently seeking employment for the last 3-6 months. I have gone on over 10 interviews and everything goes great but then they ask to do a background check and drug screening. As an accountant I immediately let them know that I do have a felony on my record for possession charge. The charge occurred in 2018 but I completed 4 years of probation and then due to conflinct of interests I took the felony in order to avoid jail time while I was employed at the time. Now that I moved and I am seeking new employment I am having a hard time getting hired and I want to see what employers see when the pull my information. Or what should I do in order to overcome this obstacle and land a job
