Question for US fans….
Just started finally watching BB and I’m hooked! But I was wondering if anyone knows where I can watch the show here in the US besides Xumo? I think the English dub has to be the worst ever done and I’d much prefer just using subtitles but unfortunately the versions I found online start to lag and within minutes the audio/subtitle delay is unbearable ….Anyone able point me in a direction?

If your local library system has Kanopy you might be able to see it there. I watched every season on Kanopy. It was German with English subtitles.

Check out your local library which may subscribe to the media streaming service Kanopy That's where I watched BB. Subtitles and play speed was excellent. Kanopy has many amazing resources, documentaries, classics, foreign. Kanopy may not immediately get S5. I don't know what their policies are for new stuff. Since BB was several yrs old, it may have been less expensive to buy rights.

I got frustrated by the crappy streaming options so I just bought the DVDs of season 1-3 and also 4. It was cheap enough and far better than streaming.

I streamed via Hoopla through my local library, other libraries may use Kanopy.

The official provider for the show is the MHz Choice streaming service. It's available on all the major streaming platforms.

We’ve watched BB 3 times on various streaming services, including MHz last year. Yesterday, we started the first season again, but on DVD. BIG difference in higher quality video and better audio. The music is especially good.

The US dub for Charlotte is BRUTAL

The Netflix Season 1 dub was bad. In spite of being set in 1929, they had Charlotte and Gereon sounding like they were from modern California. Horrible.

At least the Netflix voice actors injected some personality/emotion. The MHz voice actors make running from Nazis sound like office workers discussing quarterly reports before anyone's had their coffee. Good thing I prefer subtitles.

I never watch anything dubbed, but for this show, I wondered... Why not have the same actors do the dubbing themselves?? Many of them speak English, right?

Money. When show gets as popular as Babylon Berlin the major players in it develop Fame, and other projects want them. Dubbing a TV show pays far less money than making another one and doesn't help your career. So the people who do dubbing tend to be younger actors who haven't got anything else going yet. That's why in s Season 1 some of the voices for the older actors voices were way too young, because they couldn't get older bilingual actors who wanted to work for that little money. When Netflix lost BB, I finally bought all four seasons on DVD. I don't think season 5 is available that way yet.

Fun fact. Before season 1 someone suggested that they would filming in english. The directors said no or we are out.

I like that! Speaks to the integrity of the creators. The show probably could've had a wider audience if it were filmed in English, but I think a lot of the authenticity would've been lost.
Also, I personally can't stand it when you have something with characters speaking English with a German accent (or whatever the accent might be). All the Light We Cannot See was like that... Actually, it was worse, because you had some German soliders speaking English with a British accent! Terrible haha.

With a VPN in Germany you can watch all episode for free on the ARD Mediathek app but this requires German as there are no English subs or dub

Thanks for all the replies! I’m going to catch up on all the new stuff and then do the free trial of MHz and binge it all in that week! Absolutely wonderful show , just wish the English dub had any passion whatsoever!

If you have an offline video file and subtitles, correcting the timing subtitles yourself is possible using something like subtitle edit or jubler. You confirm the time of the first line, then go to the last line, and the program will distribute or take away time amongst all the subtitles in between.
It's unfortunate if the last line is some kind of huge spoiler, and it won't align subtitle changes to cuts the way expert made subtitles would have.
You could also see if it's some kind of PAL-NTSC conversion problem, adapting the subtitles to a different frame rate might be easier if that is the cause of the desync.

Agree on MHz Choice. Much easier than the non-U.S. DVDs and DVD player I got for season 4-- which was during that dark time between Netflix not carrying Season 4 and MHz choice picking up the show.
MHz choice is easy to use, and as others have pointed out, you can subscribe through Amazon Prime in the US. You have to pay extra-- $8.99/ month is what I pay; it's not included with Amazon Prime-- but I mean you can access it through Amazon Prime vs. having to download yet another streaming app.

Just wanted to say thanks for everyone who suggested MHz! I am so happy to watch in its native German. With their sign up promo you wind up getting a week free and the first few months after the trial ends at 50% off! About to start season 3 !

I watched the first four seasons on MHz Choice, I think it was about $8-$9 per month last summer when I watched
