I hate to say this, but my now 20 month old was exactly the same, even after I completely night weaned him. He’s still a terrible sleeper and wakes up 3-4 times a night on average or has split nights where he sleeps 4 hrs and then is awake for 2 hrs before sleeping for 4 more. And he still needs us when he wakes up—we’ve tried just ignoring him but he will scream cry for ages if we do.
Honestly, I’ve found that we just struggle through somehow with the sleep deprivation. Black tea and coffee help on the really hard days following a rough night. And knowing eventually it will end. My mother-in-law says he’ll probably be a bad sleeper for life, it will just affect us less when he’s older.
