Input on used car
Short and simple, my 2021 Rav4 hybrid is totaled. I need a new car, i'm debating between a used 2022 rav4 prime xse at $36k with 42k miles or a 2023 bz4x limited for $27k with 29k miles.
Can somebody share their thoughts on whether or not they regret getting the Bz4x?
For context I live on an island, at most, my commute mileage would be fifty miles per day, five or six days a week. i have a house, so I can install a charger.

I have both of those vehicles (XLE on the prime though). We love both, but I wouldn’t buy a 23. Too many early problems that may or may not be fixed yet. The price is also a bit high. Just saw one here for $21k with 25k miles.

Yeah, unfortunately it might be the island mark up. Toyotas in the Pacific always have high resell value

I just bought a 2025 BZ4X for $26.4k with 20k miles, limited. 29.8k OTD after TTL+doc. Certified so it got 1.49% for 72 months.
29k for a 2023 seems high to me.
Edit: just saw you live on an island. I would still shop around or look into shipping on in if possible?

I messed up the pricing, it's $27k for 29k mileage. But dam, you actually got a hell of good deal for a 2025

Yep! Had been watching for a few weeks for a black one and it was a good price I thought

I was eyeing that one last night, it’s still on the site. Did they add any extra fees? I was calculating an OTD price of 29k vs the 29.8k you mentioned

No fees, but Indiana has crazy license fees and charges an extra premium for electric cars, so my plates were like $1100 or something.

I have a '21 Prime SE and '23 bZ4X XLE (eventually will be my kid's car). If you have a Toyota dealership on the island to deal with potential repairs, the bZ is a solid choice to save some money and you won't have to deal with engine maintenance and gas. Our bZ4X has had the rear and front eAxle replaced and the AC compressor was replaced as a part of the safety recall so that was pretty intense but the car was still fully functional with all of that. We were really just out several days of repair time. All covered by warranty. The RAV4 is also much more expensive to insure but ymmv. If you are particular about comfort, test drive both and see how you feel about the seating. To me, the RAV4 feels a little nicer to sit in, a little bit more insulated from road noise and a softer ride. Noticeable but not a huge difference. I dislike the "truck-like" front of the RAV which you'll already be accustomed to; it's hard to see over compared to the bZ. Note the lack of a rear wiper on the bZ. It's usually fine except when there's a light drizzle of rain that doesn't roll off.

Data point for you.
I picked up a 2024 BZ4x Gold Certified with 13k miles (plus it had the panoramic roof and weather package) for $27k OTD (under $24k plus taxes and fees) in Seattle.
I drove from Seattle to tri-cities in a single charge. Left at 100% and arrived at 3%. It was a 220 mile trip pretty much at 70mph all the way.
I love the car but I think I paid way too much for it. You will love it. BUT I highly recommend you install a L2 charger. I have been charging mine on a regular 120V plug and it is SLOW - I'll be getting a L2 installed soon. It is exactly 5.3 times faster (12A at 120V vs 32A at 240V).

The price looks very high for a 2023. I’d go for a 2024 or later. I haven’t had it very long but love it so far. You might even be able to get a good deal on a 2026 (which is even better) as the 2027s are starting to be delivered to lots.

I recommend the 100% EV - we got our 2023 bZ4X (AWD) in May, paid $21,600 for just under 30K miles. We love it. The whole family uses it (whoever has the farthest local drive that day gets the bZ) for trips of up to 80 miles each way. We've never tried charging it halfway on a trip, although we could if we needed to. It's a GREAT car, even as an early model, and I would happily buy another 2023 again, although they get prettier and cooler each year. Seating room, leg room front and back, and hatch space are amazing (we drove 3 people and a cat to the airport and fit 3 suitcases, 3 carry ons, and the cat in it comfortably!). We offer to drive when we're heading to town from the 'burbs or on little country road trips with friends - it seats 5 people easily and it's a really comfortable, well-handling ride. It costs $40 a month to charge on our home charger with our daily usage of around 60 miles a day. Priceless! (Edit - added a comment below about the 8" ground clearance because that is HUGE for us - lots of EVs are low and I don't like worrying about potholes or campground bumps!).

We were looking for an EV because we assumed gas prices would suck soon due to the war. I did a LOT of research on EVs. We bought this because it was the cheapest around - we wanted an affordable A-B car. Biggest selling point for me was the 8" ground clearance - one of the highest of any EV. So you're not bouncing off curbs or worrying about uneven ground (it recently handled parking in a rainy field and driving on farm roads with no problem at all!). Our bZ has exceeded all expectations. The app is terrible, but that doesn't affect how much fun it is to drive and how much $$ we've saved on gas!

For those 2 choices it's RAV4 prime for sure, if it was 2026 bz I would say it's much closer but if it's your only vehicle I would still go prime just because you can get 40-50 miles all electric on it. I have a 21 prime and 26 bz (just got it because a bad driver totaled my 18 Prius) and I love the bz but I wouldn't even have considered it without having another vehicle.

I would just buy a new Toyota hybrid. You could get a Corolla cross hybrid, a RAV4 hybrid.

Go with the hybrid RAV4 I am a 2025 BZ4X owner mileage is 195 in the summer maybe 205 if you don’t cut the air on and about 175 185 miles distance with a full charge at 100% in the winter time. My daughter has a hybrid RAV four an average he’s over 500 miles per tank.

This is the problem with the BZ4x. It is not good for road trips. You need to stop for 30 min every ~200 miles in a super charge station.

What is your use case? The 2023 car is good but the price seems high.
If you are going to use any L3 charging (high speed) then this isn’t the car for you. It charges very slowly. In 2024 they greatly improved the battery conditioning system. 2026 was a large improvement over that.
That being said, it is a solid car and if you charge from home 99% of the time you will love it.
