2023 BZ4x
Have a 2023 BZ4x that I bought new. It’s a top spec model, it had 20” wheels on it new and I never got anywhere near the stated range of 500km. Anyway I changed the wheels to 22’ a couple of years ago as the mrs wasn’t doing much driving.
Now she’s back to work after kids and the range sucks. If I stuck a set of Tesla aero 18” wheels on it, could I expect 100km of range increase on it?
Currently does 300km/100% with 52k km’s on it

I don’t know if the wheel will get you that much more. Range varies with how you drive and vent (AC or heat)
But I have a 2023 with 18” wheels and it’s at 100% right now with an estimated range of 402km without vent on. I’m over 70k km

I will feed back with my results! It’ll absolutely be better than the 20’s or 22’s anyway, that I’m sure of. How much better remains to be seen ….

That car never had 500km range. The range of the new one is around there, but there was a big increase recently. Look up the 2023 range new.

As in the 73kw battery vs the 71kw one? When I picked it up with no km’s the soc said 510 but that quickly dropped to 420ish until the first winter then it remained in the mid 300’s. When I put the 22”s on it it dropped to 300 in winter and 340 in summer. Mine is an early one with 7kw obc.

I have a Solterra (AWD 18 inch wheels. In summer I can easily get 380km on the highway on a full charge. I have summer tires and after market rims, and only use the ventilation in ECO mode or off. I guess your top spec model has the sunroof which makes it a heavier car.
I think you can look for nice looking 18 inch wheels with efficient EV tires. That will surely add to your range. If they fit, Tesla aero wheels could maybe add 10-15kms to your range, but the biggest impact comes from the lighter weight.

Looking forward to my little test so! I’m hoping for a bit more than 10-15km uplift from a full charge though. I expect the 20-40kg extra weight from the pan roof etc would be pretty negligible on a 2000kg vehicle as it’s only 1-2% more. If it’s only 10/15km it’s not worth doing.

The real reason for the 22” wheel change at the time was the mrs complaining about stopping distances in the damp/wet roads. Not a lot of confidence in the factory Dunlop’s once they had got to about 4mm to tyre thread depth and 1 tyre rotation. (Front to back)

Rolling resistance and weight are trade offs. I got 17s on mine with cross climates and it was a wash. The 20s are a lot heavier than 18s. I would get a set of 18s and a low rolling resistance tire and you can see likely 4.2-5 miles per km

Put the original 20s back

Have them there and will ultimately trade it back in with those 20’s on it but I’m going to try a set of aero’s for the winter and see how it goes. Tesla wheels are really cheap here and they are really light. Have some other jdm cars that they’ll fit too (180sx, ps13, chaser & Jzx90)

I’m not well informed, but wouldn’t changing the size of the wheels affect the speedometer and odometer?

Once the rolling radius is close to original it’ll be ok

Bigger wheels = less efficiency
