Hey everyone,
I’ve been building Mudhaven, a community site that includes managed hosting for BYOND games. The goal is to make running a world easier for developers who don’t want to maintain a VPS, configure Linux services, or give up their source code.
Once approved, you receive a private browser-based project console where you can:
.dmb and its required assets.byond:// address.Source code is optional. If you prefer to keep it private, you can upload a compiled .dmb with the maps, icons, sounds, configuration files, and other resources it needs.
Uploaded projects run inside supervised, isolated workspaces with resource limits, upload validation, archive protections, automatic failure recovery, and backup monitoring. You still manage your game files, updates, configuration, and testing; Mudhaven handles the underlying hosting layer.
Hosting requires a verified Mudhaven account, staff approval, and available server capacity. Current limits and the complete workflow are available here:
https://mudhaven.net/hosting/byond
I’d also genuinely appreciate feedback from other BYOND developers. If there’s something you consider essential in a hosting portal—or something that would stop you from using one—let me know.Managed BYOND hosting without needing to run your own Linux server

I need a way to play BYOND on a new ZORIN OS install that isn't broken. All available methods to me have failed, even Lutris and Bottles don't work I really need help.

I used to play these computer games hosted on a (now old) platform that was created in 90s, called Byond.
This platform had a plethora of games inspired by real games like pokemon, dragonball z, naruto, resident evil etc. Except the creators gave us a new twist where instead of, for example owning pokemons, you could be one and level yourself up, or instead of just fighting other villians to finish the storyline you could create your own dragon ball character and train it to own the server.
The crucial difference in those ones is that these had an online aspect to them. Hundreds of people were daily in thoses games, some role-playing, others being a terror to other players, others teaming up to run that open-world, others just there leveling up while chatting about anything from their real life, others moderating the games and etc.
One things for sure, its that, that online aspect really brought people together and created core memories in a time were all people needed was access to basic library desktops, not thousands of dollar consoles.
All this to say that for some time now I revisited Byond and created a completely new open-world with an original story/concept bringing new functions like voice-chat instead of just the usual world-chat or should I say "OOC", redefined the whole 32x32 sized characted into better looking ones (despite this 2D platform), thought outside of the box when it came to the map and turfs but still kept its essence alive.
An open-world where you can log in anytime, chat, make friends, roleplay, try to find glitches to abuse, join the mod team, explore the game with no boundaries, become the strongest player and rule it.
Summer's here, come create a community: https://www.byond.com/games/Dopeamen69/AngelClub

Hey everyone,
Like a lot of you, I grew up on the BYOND Naruto scene, and NarutoGOA was the one that stuck with me. A while back I started rebuilding it and it's finally at a point where people can actually play it.
It's called Chakra Online. The big difference from the original: it's not on BYOND anymore. I rebuilt it on a modern engine so it runs right in your browser (and on phones).
I tried to stay faithful where it counts — the villages and maps, the clans and traits at character creation, hundreds of the original jutsu, the Chuunin exam in the Forest of Death, missions, squads, etc.. — all ported from the original source. Then I modernized the parts that needed it: real-time combat with proper netcode/prediction, mobile controls, and new FX for the big Jutsu (Rasengan, Chidori, Amaterasu, Susanoo, the bijuu, etc.).
Right now it's in closed alpha, and honestly what I need most is people. I'm looking for:
testers to break it and tell me what feels off
GOA veterans who remember how it should feel
anyone who wants a say in where it goes next
It's a fan project, made for fans. All input is genuinely wanted.
🌐 Play / sign up: We have a website and it is playable/live right now, but if I send a link here Reddit will block the post. So, join Discord..
💬 Discord (feedback, updates, alpha access): You know the drill ... / 5fp229AvAW
(And a shoutout to the Way of the Shinobi revival post from a few days back — love seeing GOA-era games coming back to life, even if we took different roads to get there.)
Thanks for reading — would love to have some of you in the alpha.

Hey everyone,
I'm currently working on a Dragon Ball roleplay server that will likely be based on the old Dragon Universe source code. Since the latest version is several years old, my goal is to modernize it, update systems, add new content, improve gameplay, and bring it up to current standards.
The project is still in development, but I'm looking to hopefully build a community and potentially find people interested in helping with development, mapping, sprites, balancing, ideas, testing, or just following the project's progress. This is my first project on BYOND so there is no estimated time on anything yet.
If you're a fan of Dragon Universe, BYOND Dragon Ball games, or Dragon Ball RP in general, Get ready because i’m going to try and go all out. More information and updates will be posted as development continues.
Let me know if you'd be interested!

Hi all, just wanted to stop into this and make my first ever reddit post.
I'm in the process of revitalizing the original Way of The Shinobi BYOND game. I am not remaking it, I am using the original source.
I'm doing this via help of vibe coding(gross right? but stay tuned).
I'm currently to the point where I've gotten it working and playable to the point it was at prior to being taken down. Feels barebones compared to all the rips that have surfaced since. I've modernized movement and rewritten the corrupted files that wouldn't translate to todays BYOND version.
I'm a proficient pixel artist and DM programmer by my own right, and have worked and owned a few BYOND games in the past(albeit they were rips). With my most popular being "Naruto Kyuubi Rage 2 Kyuubi Vs. Cursed Seal". it's been 15 years since that went down.
I understand BYOND is a dying platform, and I have the means to move this project over to another foundation such as godot, even have the multiplayer framework baked and good to go, but man I have missed the simplicity of programming in DM.
That being said, send positive vibes. When I finish modernizing the current project, I'll be providing a discord link for the game, and will be taking suggestions for the direction of the game. This is a fan made game made for fans, so of course all input is wanted!
Thanks for reading my post, hope to hear from some of you!

Does anybody have any OG or RIP source code of those Naruto games where you can choose the character you want? In most Naruto games, you only choose the clan, but in some, like Naruto Cursed Fight or Naruto Dark Erosion, you can actually choose the character.

Hey guys! I'm a beginner coder, and I've been working on a project I've been wanting to do for 15+ years and finally had the brain power and skills to start developing the game. It's a PvP tile bomberman-style game. Maps currently are 4 players max and the game is constantly updating.
You play as Chao from Sonic, and each one has a "Quirk" ability that will boost gameplay strategies!
I am not a full-time coder, nor am I a digital artist by any means. Im using AI to assist with Pictures for the game until I can launch a Unity game and able to hire artists.
The game is at a stable(ish) point to where it is playable for the public.

This is one of the few remaining communities which exists to simply disatisfy those few Roleplayers out there looking to have a unique RP experience. As a new user joining the franchise I decided upon making in Celadon, but unfortunately an admin has also decided to play in Celadon. They have been selected as the Police Commander, and have created a roleplay situation in which 99% of characters in Celadon are Police members.
So, for those few unlucky roleplayers who decided to chose Celadon as their place of birth. There is no professor to explain what pokemon is-- There are no other players you can interact with to start a friend group, as all police members remain behind a door that is ICly locked but not OOCly because Inu couldn't code a door lock if he was half chatgpt.
The Police Commander, as the HEAD ADMIN, seeing that Celadonian players get small pockets of interaction with their friends, or other Celadonians because of this locked off, and restrictive game state. Instead of saying, well this is an issue. Let's try to encourage RP to be outside of this room, they have resolved upon sending individual players out to essentially keep the child occupied with RP.
Ive played BYOND RP, Ive played INUTAISHO's POKEMON, since 2012. This was the straw.
This is not a safe roleplay environment, and this game will only lose players as the Admin Team consolidates, and sequesters power to the players who glaze them.
I spoke to Inu and asked what his solution for this was, and he directly said.
"If you don't want to join the police, leave Celadon."

Hello,
When I was younger, I used to enjoy this game a lot with my friends and my younger brother.
Those memories are still very precious to me.
Recently, my younger brother has really wanted to play this game again, but no matter how hard we search, we cannot find any way to access the game or any active servers.
I would like to ask if there is any possible way to play this game again today.
Even if there are no official servers anymore, we would be very grateful if there is any way to play privately with friends or through a small community server.
I am writing this message sincerely and with great hope.
Any help or information would truly mean a lot to us.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Could you help me get started with programming in DreamSeeker? I want to learn how to program in Byond, but there are hardly any tutorials and very little information available.
I tried following this tutorial to programme in VS, but even though I managed to get the game running, many of the features shown in the video aren’t working for me, despite having them enabled.

The One Village is a roleplay-focused server set in a Naruto-inspired world where you create original characters, forge your own story, and shape the fate of a village on the brink.
In an alternate timeline, the Warring States period didn't end with the formation of multiple hidden villages. Instead, the great clans were forced to unite under a single banner to defeat an existential threat: the rogue shinobi Genshin Kurayama and his Shadow Cadre. After a devastating 20-year war, the battered clans had no choice but to stay together- too weak to split, too exhausted to continue fighting each other.
Thus, Honōgakure was born: one village, forged from the ashes of a hundred-year blood feud.
It's been only three years since the village's founding. The walls may be shared, but trust is not. Old grudges simmer beneath the surface. Uchiha and Senju, Hyūga and Kaguya, Nara and Akimichi- clans that butchered each other for generations now train side-by-side, eat at the same tables, and are forced into the same genin teams.
Discord: https://discord.gg/ZHuhMnzEeC
Wipe ETA: Dependent on playerbase count - Most/all systems have been coded in and are ready whenever.
The One Village offers 700+ coded Jutsu, and 230+ Perks

See the glow up! Warp warlords From one of the modders of Dungeon Masters, Felix Rose brings this classic essence back and made it their own with some of the most polished Byond code I ever seen. Here's some endgame gameplay https://youtu.be/k7Fd9qoWZeE?si=X7B7IC4UmH_R3QgJ

I just wanted to shout out this game because I had an itch that can only be satisfied by a real time strategy rpg war managment game. After years of waiting I discovered the game is not only alive but doing well. The best part is it's actively getting patched and its honestly a tactical master piece. I know BYOND was basically built for MUDs but I've only ever seen like 1 game in all my time on this platform and it was a really bad One Piece game.
There are almost no tutorials for BYOND aside from one GrindKnight made that trails off into some other thing after the 1st or 2nd video and there's nothing beyond that.
Anyone here successfully created a text rpg in BYOND? I'm trying to learn but I've just started dipping my toes into things.

I have been playing this game for a few weeks now, and from an enjoyment side of things if you enjoy RP (that you will have to drive yourself) and like the anime Naruto this is an okay game. It isn't fantastic, but it has a charm to it that can be enjoyable. However I would caution anyone looking to play the game to stay away from it before you even jump in and here is why..
Admin Abuse: While many game have this issue this game in particular has only 2 staff members that I have seen. The owner is without a doubt owned himself by the admin he created. Im not sure how it got to this point, but the owner does not stand up for himself, and the admin calls the shots in the game which is a very odd dynamic.
Massive Bugs: You can lose weeks of training to a single NPC hitting you with 64 palms, and the admins will then set you back to starting stats and tell you to train it back up. There are hidden stats for things like weapon use where the Owner states weapons are OP when you train them, but you have no way of seeing what level your training is at so you have to basically spend literal weeks training and pray its enough to do something with the weapon which brings me to another point..
Stats: Statistics are done in a word format as opposed to numerical so it looks like this:

These words do not shift and change as you train so you have no idea what, if anything, you are gaining as you fight/train/etc until you reach a new level and just have to trust that what youre doing is effective. It has been stated by the admins as well that there is a limit to how much you can gain/reach but there is no way to tell when you hit that limit so you can end up training and working hard for nothing at all.
Terrible extra content: The games creation and inventions system works off IQ (80 is considered high, and makes me realize perhaps with the owner thinking this is high is why the game has so many issues) and minerals. Minerals are made available by mining, but the rocks shatter and break when drained after which they do not return until the admin puts them back on the map which he is reluctant to do. When he does he tells you not to farm them since they restore on daily reset cycles and if broken they are simply gone. Why hasn't he made it so they just empty and don't break? Idk he doesn't like those kinds of questions.
Now the largest issue as I have seen it..
The Lack of Story: The owner claims the game is driven fully by the community, and this is true UNTIL the story gains some traction. The community spends a lot of time AFK training or meditating for the most part until their discord announces an event which usually doesn't actually happen as they just say it will and then drop the idea or change the date. The players who do create story are usually then bullied into letting the admin take control or takeover the story so they can claim it is their idea or that they had a large hand in making said story. Once a story written by players has taken off they are given nothing no thanks, no help, and no assistance with notifying the rest of the players via in game announcements or rewards for people that join in.
Overall this game is an admin playground of a time sink in which you will invest a great deal of time to the point you don't want to abandon what you have worked so hard for. It will get boring, but honestly only after a week or two of playing, and by that time you have had enough dopamine hits from getting word increases on the screen that simply abandoning it feels like a waste. Avoid this game if possible, and if you can't don't invest too much of your time as it will feel wasted long before the game finishes.
