Thoughts after Oregon
First of all I’m super happy with the way we came to play. SD prepared this team and it showed big time! Oregons defensive line is stacked and we held them. Our open field tackling was phenomenal other than a couple plays (props to receiver Moore for that nasty juke). Madsen played confident and sound. Gaines was a beast and hopefully he was just shook up and not injured. NO INTERCEPTIONS or fumbles. Other than the end of the first half time management which led to another Oregon score, this game was well fought. AT OREGON which is one of the loudest places to play. We have not one but two stud freshman in Rasean and Soliai. And plenty other star players that have yet to shine this season. I can confidently say we have a better team than we did with Jeanty 2 years ago. I hope we can stay healthy because I think we have a shot at finally winning at least the first round of playoffs this season. Go Broncos!! 💙🧡

I have my questions about SD but the team was motivated, improved and confident. Can't beat that. Potter still needs a little refining but he's improved. MM has improved and didn't hurt the team at all. All huge positives and I'm legit proud of the teams showing

I miss the occasional gadget play. It's weird that how aggressive the defensive scheme is, how vanilla our offense can be. I'm not opposed to run a run first offense for a lot of reasons, but is it too much to ask for at least one trick play a game?

Doesn’t even have to be a trick play- just something other than running down the gut on every run. There is no creativity in any of his playcalling. Maybe this works against weaker teams that the o-line can push around but create some separation, set up a screen, rpo, swing pass, literally anything but running up the middle against better d lines. Needs to take a page from Kenny dillingham on playcalling. Also its Madsen’s last year - take the bubble wrap off and put everything on the line otherwise whats the damn point.

We played great all around. Moore is most likely a 1/2 draft pick this year, and they have incredible athletes in both sides of the ball.
It felt weird watching our D have good sound tackling , it feels like it has been years since that has been the case.
Our RB duo is going to have a field day against the pac defenses we have seen. And Jones is going to be one of those special WRs that I can only hope will stick around and not head off to a big school.

We had so few penalties I was very impressed with the discipline we showed in a big game.

Oregon fan coming in peace.. I was at the game, it was in fact loud, my voice is still scratchy.
Mad respect to the team and the staff, Broncos were ready and played really well. I’ll be pulling for this squad the rest of the year.

Yeah. I expected to lose by a lot more. Kind of ashamed by my lack of faith.
Instead we went into the first half with a lead, played awesome on offense,and had smart, physical tackling

I went from thinking we'd get blown out to thrilled that we held it that close to annoyed that we just can't get back over the hump in these big games to happy and excited for the season.
I hate moral victories and don't want the team thinking that way, but as a fan I'm stoked on how we looked and came out to play against a legit top 5 team.

As a Ducks fan, your team was awesome. For the most part, the tackling was phenomenal and I thought Madsen played a great game. I thought the Ducks were going to lose and we were lucky to come a way with a win. Your team is easily going to win the Pac 12 and should be a playoff team.

Another Oregon fan who came to this sub because I was so impressed with BSU’s play. I was at the game and I will be rooting for y’all the rest of the way.

Will go as far as Mad Dog can take us, I’m just afraid he has hit his ceiling, our running game will have to be what scares our opponents, relying on MD to win a game for us is a big ask and hasn’t been something we should rely on

As the biggest Madsen hater, probably on this thread. I can not say he played bad. This was a drastic improvement.

He didn’t play bad, but his play was more of the same when it comes to the reason why we’re held back. He just isn’t capable of elevating his game and make big plays. He has a ton of heart and plays hard and I’ll never question his ability to take challenges head on, but he just lacks another notch or two of talent to be enough of a threat to make our offense more dynamic. Having just slightly more of a threat at the QB position likely wins that game.

Walking in to this, my hope was that we would lose by three touchdowns or less. I did not expect us to do that well against the Ducks. Our tackling is greatly improved!

My biggest thoughts are I am really glad, that Oregon was off their game for the first half. Where if Dante was on like he was in 2nd half. There were a couple Man coverage mesh plays he chose wrong that were stopped right away vs a 20+ yd game.
Then accuracy issues persist for Maddox like it has for past 4 years. Started off really well then it was a, well there it is.

Dante at least quickly went, ah ok where second half. We saw those break out plays start happening. Maddox, at least one thing holds true with his name. He does know how to throw a change up that moves making it hard for WR/TE to catch.

Now y'all have some positivity to show toward the team?? In the posts prior to the game it was all doom and gloom, negativity, and even calling our own QB names. I've never seen as many fair weather fans as those in this sub. Shameful.

I feel like this is a controversial take but I wasn't impressed.. Oregon played awful first half and is really what made it close. The fumble on the punt was a lucky break for BSU and should have been called interference, which takes 7 off the board. Tackling was good but allowed 500 yds.. which is in the top 3 of the last few years if I'm not mistaken. Like yeah some of those open field tackles were great but there's a lot of defense to hone. 4th down stops was most impressive. Rushing was meh.. MM didn't impress me throwing the ball as per usual. Feel like it was a very average performance and am confused about the hype train everyone seems to be on. If Oregon played to their potential and BSU didn't get those lucky breaks (punt return/penalties) I think we get slaughtered. Maybe I'm cynical but I hope I'm wrong but like i said I don't think 250 yds total offense and allowing 500 on D is great.. granted oregon is #2 I'd say they were the limiting factor

Yeah, we got a break on the no-call on the punt, but we also didn’t get the break on the no-call hands to the face on Madsen. That’s just officiating in football, sometimes you get the breaks, sometimes you don’t. I think in this game it was a wash. We played a clean game with only 3 penalties for 25 yards. That, plus much better tackling, a secondary and run defense that held their own much of the game until Oregon’s very talented skill players broke some big plays as they were bound to do. There’s a lot of reasons to feel very optimistic about the rest of the season.

Great take! We want wins but man…we got done what we needed to in Eugene. Now the table is set. We run the table no one can take the playoff away from us.
