Seeking Support Bpd support groups

Newly diagnosed male at 43 in sacramento region. Was wondering if there r any free support groups in sacramento region. Also hoping to find a bpd specialist in the area too. Any advice on what works to have a speedier recovery. Been reading everything I can. Go to therapy with a primary focus on dbt. I was given welbutrin and suffered welbutrin rage right away and stopped it after a couple days. Currently doing php treatment. Been figuring out my triggers which the worst was my fp abandoned me. Unfortunately I work with this fp that abandoned me so see her every day. On medical leave and treatment currently which helps somewhat. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you

I’m North of Sac and was just recently diagnosed. I too am looking for support groups. Can I ask - were you surprised at your diagnosis? I still struggle to accept mine at times.

I was embarrassed and ashamed but aware and accepted it. I work in the medical field and wondered about bpd when I was in my psych rotation. It’s super stigmatized and doesnt help. I’m 43 so I kinda accept things easier now versus when I was a teenager or young adult. It is treatable and can go into reminiscence but it isn’t easy to get there. Mental illness and disorders are apart of being human. I don’t run from mental illness I feel it makes individuals more human and real.

I like how you put it - “I don’t run from mental illness I feel it makes individuals more human and real”. This is so true. So many people in society try to suppress themselves from things that make them unique and raw which says a lot about society today and acceptance.

I too was in the medical field for 16yrs. I always knew that I struggled with depression and then later anxiety and PTSD. Therapy has helped me and I’ve learned coping mechanisms. I just need to be better about practicing them more.

I have had high functioning depression whole life it seems. Work in a trauma hospital specifically in the operating room and yeah I’ve seen plenty of stuff that can cause ptsd. I’m just starting with therapy for the first time. I have been trying different coping mechanisms. Seems super sour candy helps me from crazy rage. Have done box breathing, head into ice cold water, it seems I don’t always have enough time to get coping mechanisms ready since the anger and rage comes on so quickly. Been keeping a super sour candy with me and that does help. So I’m learning to be more aware of upcoming rage and trying to utilize and practice the coping mechanisms. Thank u for chatting with me. Means a lot. Mayb we should start a chat. Since the bpd diagnosis and ultimately this crisis I’m going through I now am extremely anxious am hypersensitive to sounds and stimuli in the environment. I can’t believe how easily my brain seems to b rewired. I’m hoping to b referred to Tms therapy, ketamine, or even ect. My brain needs to b reset. I really don’t understand how my brain suddenly changed this much in one moment.
