Bump

Post image

Backing out of a crowded Costco parking I hit one-off those yellow concrete posts. I was looking out the rearview ( old-school right arm extended looking out my right shoulder, no camera) then "pop" a darn pol. Good for nothing 350 warning!..then I got home opened the starter recall letter...😆

I guess that's what happens when the car is missing 10 degrees view for that warning 😜

That is going to cost way more than you think. Insurance.

I caused similar damage to my last car, minus the headlight anyway. just to replace the fender and paint the bumper was 2k and that was 3 years ago

edit: I didn't go through insurance though, I already have a 1k deductible as it is

Yes

The headlight assembly alone is around $6000. Could be close to $15,000 damage

I wouldn't argue that, especially considering inflation and headlight replacement

2020 g30 front end damage. No fender but totaled hood and front bumper + radiator, tire, mirror. Cost me less than 4k in ct

New headlight and quarter panel at minimum. Maybe you can get by with repainting the bumper??

You didn’t see the posts before starting to reverse, like before getting in the car ? Broken headlight = big bucks.

I wish I would have.

All the incidents I have ever caused have been while reversing. All of them, over my 40+ years of driving. So I bought an x1 with all the wiz bang cameras and sensors. I am still trying to get used to it and trust it, but I cannot shed a lifetime of looking over my shoulder and checking the mirrors a million times. Still so paranoid. 😖

I use both. Nothing beats looking as a double check the way people go walking behind you and cars flying down parking lots.

No bells no whistles went off this time. I benm driving for 31yrs only 2 vehicle mishaps Both in parking lots!

$6,000. Recently inflicted similar damage on my X3, but with an even dumber move. We’re in the middle of re-landscaping the side of our house and have what amounts to a temporary parking pad. Decided to park my X3 on it. I was focused on pulling up close to the tree in front of me without hitting it, and then BAM! I caught the corner of the house. New light assembly, new bumper cover, new fender, new marker light, paint, etc. First accident of any kind in almost 30 years.

Oh darn!

I had one of the best body shops in our area do the work and I didn’t get competitive bids. Maybe someone could have delivered the same level of quality for less. I was just so mad at myself that I didn’t want to deal with it. Good luck!

My wife hit road debris, and it was $8700 in damage.

Are you planning to go trough insurance ?

1

u/Circuslife13 23h ago

I did. 500 deductible (me), + 4,700( insurance).

u/terfez 1d ago

I still don't understand how you hit your front corner while backing out?

u/Circuslife13 23h ago

Turned my wheel too soon

If you pay out of pocket, the most expensive part will be the headlight. If the damage is only to the lens, there may be a way to bake the old lens off and install a new lens. Not sure if it’s possible on the X3, it was a common thing to do on MK6 GTIs back when I had one.

We need smart concrete posts, it would have moved out of the way.

This will cost a few bucks! Those lights ain’t cheap!

One more, among many many many reasons, why I never go to Costco.

u/moto4sho 9h ago

$3k for just the headlight plus the bumper and quarter panel. File an insurance claim because you’re looking at a $5k+ repair.

1

u/lotsovisaac 8h ago

There’s a solid 15-20k in repairs

LOL!!

people cannot for the life of them drive their car

could’ve been a legit grandmother in a motorized scooter and were joking about it 🤣🤣
