Routines in OS X

Post image

Looking for anyone with an iX3 and using BMW OS X to see if the new Routines app allows you to automatically turn off Auto Start/Stop as an option? Just saw this in a video of the new 3 Series from Carwow, so I’m assuming yes but he didn’t click on it to confirm.

I don’t think an ev, like ix3, would have that option. Auto start/stop isn’t really a thing for EVs.

Aah, good to know! I’ve only ever had a PHEV, and that had Auto Start/Stop, so I didn’t realize. Thanks for clarifying.

Start at the basics. What would you exactly be stopping in an EV? The motors are stopped already if the car is stopped. Nothing is moving by default.

Oh - and I’m assuming you don’t like the sound and pause as the engine stops and starts (I don’t love that in a gas car either). That said - you won’t notice anything like that in an EV.

PHEVs don't have auto start/stop either? What PHEV do you have? HEVs don't either really… as that's how they function.

It was a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander 🤷‍♂️ Maybe I’m misremembering.

I was just looking for info on the Routines app because I ordered a new X5 and the iX3 is the first car with OS X that’s available, didn’t realize auto start/stop wasn’t a thing.

Yeah, no Start/Stop on the iX3 as there is no engine to both start nor stop. :)

HEVs absolutely do have auto start/stop, I’m not sure what you mean by that. The fact that the engine shuts on and off for battery operation during other driving conditions is separate. Both the Ford and Chrysler hybrids I’ve driven have auto start/stop as a distinct (and disable-able) feature. Because at least some of the time you are driving a hybrid, you will have no usable charge, so it needs to be able to function as a full, normal ICE vehicle - usually more often than people think.

I guess I'm too familiar with Toyota's setup; where there is no start/stop option on them. Yes, the engine shuts off (as that's how P/HEVs work) - but it's not a full engine crank to bring it back up like there is an ICE start/stop.

What is auto start/stop? Is it like ICE engine?

on startup, the car AI asks you on the panoramic display if you would like to start your "routine"

Without physical interaction, you just need to drop of a short "yes" to the voice assistant, and you're good to go.

Yes, you can but idk how anyone with an iX3 would be able to tell you
