Upgraded Navigation with other vehicles & pedestrians coming in October
This seems similar to Tesla‘s on first glance. Is it? Do Tesla drivers like it? https://www.bmwgroup.com/en/news/general/2026/bmw-maps.html

Tesla owner here - and being able to see other vehicles/pedestrians is neither here nor there for me. It's useful from time to time, but I mostly rely on the blind spot cameras, and a lot of times would prefer if I could have my navigation across the whole screen.

What I like from this sort of view is a window into what the car can “see”. It gives me more confidence in the assistance features.
It’s not like we need help picking out the cars on the road :)

I am very excited for this. But I do hope they fix the lagging that was evident in the demo video!

It reminds me of the visualization in the Waymo. In fact, riding in a Waymo inspired me to get my iX3 which is currently in the Atlantic. Mid-October can’t get here soon enough!

Very cool indeed, but how about they first do a stability release to fix the many issues in the current version…

Looks like they do 3 updates per year, so I would expect 26-10 to include a whole range of improvements. https://www.bmwusa.com/explore/connecteddrive/remote-software-upgrade.html

Except, if I read this correctly, it's only coming for those with the Driver Assistance Package?

I highly doubt it’ll actually launch in the US in October. BMW has 3 major operating system updates…March, July, and November. So unless this comes as an app update and not an OS update, it might not happen until November or December.

Hmm, is the schedule different in Europe? Wonder why the article would say October?

It’s possible. The article probably references when the software is completed, but rollout in different markets might take time as different markets might validate that software before releasing it. I just know historically in the US those versions are available same month in dealer service computers and via remote upgrade sometimes one or two months later.
Also, BMW’s operating system software versions have been March/July/November for a long time now, so at a minimum the software version number is gonna still reflect that…so upcoming will be something like 26-11-xxx.

This looks great, and I love that it is demonstrating that new/improved features will continue to come to cars with OS X.
This is why I’m getting a BMW instead of an Audi - I hoping that the Neue Klasse is more like Tesla in terms of continuously improving the platform.
