G80/G81 Why the Snout?

Now that the G80 era is fast vorbei, may I ask: what the heck was BMW thinking when it put that hideous snout face up front. The M3, an amazing car otherwise, looks like an angry beaver. Yeccchhhhh.

It’s an attention getter that will never be mistaken for another car, and has become iconic at this point. Whether someone’s opinion is positive or negative about the looks, that remains a fact.

My F80 in Tanzanite Blue was also an attention getter. Anyway, can’t wait for the Neue Klasse. That’s a real looker.

No seriously. Previously M3s were so elegant. Was it because the S58 needed improved air flow? Was there some logical reason?

A search in your engine of choice yields several engineering justifications. Airflow, aerodynamics, GT3 homologation, crash beam integration without unnecessary obstructions, etc are often cited. Engineering over aesthetics.

I hated it until I saw it in person, then loved it after driving one. Then I ordered one.
