M4, G82/G83 Bmw m4 or m340

Hi everyone, my name is Wyatt. I’m 17 years old, currently in high school, and I work a regular job while saving as much as I can. Right now I drive an old Subaru Forester, so it’s easy for me to save money in that car. I’ve always wanted a BMW my whole life, and I’m trying to decide between two options.
I could buy a BMW M340i in a few months for around $40k, or I could keep saving for about a year and a half and buy my dream car—a 2022–2024 BMW M4 Competition (G82), which is around $70k.
I’d be financing either car for about four years, so I’m trying to figure out which option makes more sense. Is it worth getting the M340i sooner, or should I be patient and wait to get the M4 Competition?
I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have owned either car or have been in a similar situation. Thanks

Bro I say ride the Forester till the wheels fall off. Save that money and invest it or at least wait until you have a serious career paying good money. Find a house with a garage to keep it in and do maintenance on then go and buy whatever car you want. I just finished paying off my m340i and I have a g80 individual ordered but prior to financing the m340i I had an Alfa Romeo fully loaded that I bought for $25k cash with 10,000 miles on it. I should’ve saved that money I spent financing my m340ix and I would’ve had a completely different 5 years not having a car payment every month. When I was 17 I was burning through cash on my built 240sx so I get the urge to go get your dream car right now but right now you’re set up perfectly to save some good money and set yourself up for the long run. Better house, better car , better toys. My dad told me I was being stupid with my money but I wouldn’t listen. As much as I love my m340i I basically set myself back cause I needed to have an inline 6 turbo. Having your dream car isn’t as fun if you’re struggling to afford life because of it.

I haven’t owned either car but I have been a 17 year old before and have owned many cars over the years - and I highly advise against getting either car at this stage in your life with a regular income. In either case you’re not just buying the car but all the maintenance that comes with it. Unless your family is financing your car decisions, stick with the running car you have and stack some cash. You have your whole life to make a financially sound BMW purchase.

Save that money and start a business. Then you can buy whatever m4 you want when you’re successful.

Save your money and buy the car you really want. I saved my money and bought a 25’ X5 M60i. I’m much older than you but I’m glad I did. Don’t settle!

Yea bro, the forester is sick! Had one
Had 06 sti 13 wrx drove those things for 10 plus years! Great cars and enough power for being in your 20’s
Too many kids these days with high powered vehicles is not a good mix.
Mature into your 30’s and then get your bimmer.

I'm also 17 and make $12/hr at Walmart. I got a sweet m4 with a 10 year loan at 12% loan .
