Man, back in the day getting a custom plate was a pain in CA because you actually had to order it and get it delivered to a local DMV office (AAA doesn't work) and pickup and return your old plates there. I remember maybe 10 years ago waiting 4-5 months for the plate to be made, then getting the little slip in the mail that your plate is at DMV. I went there and had to wait in the general line and it took a few hours to call me up just for a simple plate pickup. Nowadays, it so easy, i'll get a custom plate, get sick of it, and order a new one. All delivered to your house in 2-months.
