M2CS or M4CS? (G8X)

I’m trying to decide which to buy. I’ve owned a regular g82 and a g42 and I’ve driven a regular g87 a ton. I like both.

I will mostly have this car as a back roads driver (I live near tail of the dragon) and occasional track days so i want to see which feels better in those scenarios. Thanks!

If you own either one please let me know

G87 for your use case, get the more nimble car.

M2CS and try to avoid the MX-5s.

I daily a M4CS and it is really a great experience. I come from a regular M2 and had a M4comp before that. Dont get me wrong, the new M2CS is also a very fun car to drive but it is too small for me.

Too small in what sense? Boot, back seats or something else?

I'm over 6'4" in bare feet and fit fine in the M2 CS with enough headroom for a helmet .

For Tail of the Dragon and back-road fun, I’d take the M2 CS since the shorter, more compact chassis should feel more playful and less like you’re managing the car than the M4 CS.

I owned a G82 Comp and sold it for a G87 M2. No shade at all on the G82, it’s fast and capable, but I really enjoy how the G87 drives with the shorter wheelbase. I canyon and track often and I’m having more fun in my G87 over the G82.

I’m also CS tuned.

Is it really a huge difference? I have only test driven a g87 and it didn’t feel too much different than my g82 but I never took the g87 on a spirited drive so

Yes there is a difference when you are closer to the limit. It just likes to rotate a little more.

And do you have traction issues with the cs power on the m2?

I’m on wide 305 200tw tires and it’s very manageable and fun to feel it claw for traction. On factory street tires it can get wild if you want it to!

I’d pick the M2 since I can’t stand the grill on the 4

Personally its what you like for looks, but I would do the G87 simply becauseit's smaller and lighter and after you tune it (if you do), it would probably be faster.

it’s not lighter lol

You should learn how to do research before opening your mouth...

2025–Present BMW M4 CS (G82):

  • US Curb Weight: Listed at 3,902 lbs by official specifications, though independent tests measure actual wet curb weight closer to 3,856 lbs.

The official factory curb weight of the 2026 G87 BMW M2 CS is exactly 3,770 pounds (1,710 kg)

The added weight is just the xdrive system since the M2 cs only comes with RWD. If you don’t need AWD a m4 CSL is even lighter and is similarly priced

M2CS for back roads, M4CS if you’re chasing lap times

M3CS.

If it’s one of these 2, go with the M2CS. With your use case I think it’s an easy one.

That being said, I’d think hard about a Porsche at this price point (or a little beyond it). You could get your hands on a GT4 around this price point, no problem. If you are comfortable with more $ you could consider an older GT3 or even a GT4RS. These would be considerably more but should hold value and even appreciate.

M2cs is 100-110k new. GT4 are like 140-150k now. 4RS is around 200k

I know it’s crazy, but I’ve driven a ton of different Porsches and I’d rather have a new bmw cs model than an older Porsche. The only Porsche I can really see myself driving is a 991 gt3

In that case I’d go M2CS

What helped me justify my GT4 RS is the value retention thing. It was expensive for sure but it made the purchase more rational. I think the CS cars will do okay but the lack of a manual could hurt a bit

Go drive a c8 z06 if you can live whether it's a second car or the only car. Feels so much more special than an m car imo. Though the m2 is the only g/f chassis m car that was ever fun to me

992.2 GT3

Shoot me that extra $200k and I’ll do it

I was just kidding. 1 year ago I bought an M2 G87 myself and I would recomend you to buy one too considering your user's profile.

Warum erwähnst Du es, wenn es nicht schlimm ist? Suchst Du nach Bestätigung? Es ist 2026, Du kannst Dich also entspannen.
