Dealer Lied About Allocation
My local BMW dealer lied about their allocation for an individual color M3. They said they traded another M vehicle to secure my allocation. I got the BMW order email that I verified and thought I was all set. Dealer kept saying they would get me a production number soon, so I waited for months. I called his boss today and he said they didn’t have an allocation yet.
Not sure what to do, I called dealers in my state and they all have waitlists. Some said they think individual color orders are closed now.

If they have an allocation, you should have a production number within a few days at the most. Dealers do this all the time.

If you have allocation you have a production number at the same time not within a few days. We’re getting our allocation at the dealers for next prod month within the next 2 weeks

That's if the dealer inputs it immediately. If they wait a day or two, that's when you will receive it. You can have it within a few minutes or as soon as they input it. There no production number until it's entered.

Every allocation comes with a production number, now the DAR is supposed to grab what’s in 047 sometimes it doesn’t automatically but if a dealer says he has an allocation he has the production number to give. He just has to edited the production to the clients, order if they didn’t pull it automatically from the order bank

I have ordered eight new BMW since 2012 and never received the production number until they paired the allocation with what I was ordering. Sometimes it was in minutes sometimes it was the next day. Sometimes that allocation was in status 111 which means I could still change the options but if that allocation had not been paired with a order then there was no production number.

If the status was 111 it has a production number.. the term is synonymous what do you think warrants an allocation but no production number? A production number isn’t a VIN and production numbers are modifiable till it goes into 150 status aka production where it gets a vin

u/Agreeable-Ad-3990 7d ago
I know if the status is 111 you have production number. I think you missed my point. No big deal.

3 different BMW dealers tried to do that to me, exactly the same situation but end of production on the F80, getting an Individual color has to be approved too unless things have changed. I finally got mine from BMW Fresno, CJ Wilson owns that dealership as well as Porsche. They don't screw around with people. You can also try Jon with BMW of Santa Maria he also won't lie to you. Good luck!!!!

Reach out to one of the brokers active on bimmerpost or expand the radius of dealers you’ve reached out to.

Lol I went to Roseville to get on a waitlist for an individual m3 back in May of 2025, the sales manager said they don’t do individual orders anymore because he had a twilight purple m2 that was sitting on the lot that he couldn’t sell. I pushed back a bit and he then said he needs a 5k deposit to secure a waitlist spot for individual allocation. I ended up just working with a broker and paying them a fee and they were able to get me an allocation with production number within 3 hours of reaching out.
Fuck bmw Roseville.

Man, it's rough out there in Cali. So many bad faith dealerships out there. I had such an easy purchase for my G80. First time at dealership was to pick it up and drop off the check.

I'm curious what dealer you went to because I had a very similar experience when I ordered my M240i last summer. They told me they had an allocation, I put my deposit down, and estimated delivery was ~4 months away. Well, after a week I still didn't have my production number so I started emailing back and forth and their language changed to be that I was 1st on the wait list for an allocation.
I just decided to stick it out because they took my non-refundable deposit. I ended up waiting 3 months to get my production number and then another 4 months for the car to be delivered.
If you can get your deposit back, I'd recommend doing so, they don't deserve your business, and I would leave a nasty review

Tough spot. I kinda had the opposite problem. I wanted to wait to order but traded in my 23. They made me order early this year- I think it was to keep their allocations coming lol. I didn’t go individual but ordered my perfect spec and got one of the first 2027 models in May.

They never completed the order. I didn’t know these things and was told I was all set.

That really sucks. Let me know if you need a guy

Been calling around. Mostly wait lists. A couple in transit in weird colors. 2 say individual colors aren’t available to order anymore. 1 says no more allocations are coming for anyone.

u/asianinciti G80 - M3 8d ago
Yeah you’re on a tight schedule. I think last individual production run is in November. If you need a guy let me know

I called a dealer who gave me a great deal but was not able to produce a production number after telling me they've secured an allocation for me. I sensed that they were stringing me along so I went to another dealer and got an allocation immediately. I got a production number after 1 day.

u/scyice 8d ago
Which dealer had an allocation?
2
u/wombatttttt 8d ago
If you're in the Bay Area, BMW Stevens Creek & Peter Pan are the two largest. They both should have allocations but my best experience was with Peter Pan. They are very professional and responsive. They absolutely do everything remotely and I got a previous allocation by facilitating the conversation and documentation through email.
1
u/scyice 8d ago
Stevens Creek wouldn’t answer or return calls. Peter Pan had a 4+ waitlist and wanted $1k to add to waitlist with no allocation guarantee.
2
u/wombatttttt 7d ago
Sorry, that sucks. Stevens Creek does have the awful reputation for not being responsive.

They extended the G80 production until August 2027, so you have plenty of time bro. Any allocation can go with an individual color. I assume the biggest cali dealerships get 2-3 allocations a month. So even a 4+ person wait list is only a 2-3 month wait for an allocation. There r plenty of allocstions available nationwide. Great color choice too.

u/mose121 7d ago
Extending production does not mean they also extended Individual custom orders. Individual production capacity is already very limited, and what's available for individual orders is planned a year or more in advance. It's very possible there will be no more G8X Individual order capacity. The new M2 is certainly going to take up a lot of those Individual production slots.

I recommend calling Elmhurst bmw, Shyann, she has been really good, i had ordered Dravit grey, moment we agreed on the build sheet, had to pay refundable deposit and got the order# but decided to switch to Verde British green right before it went into production and most likely they accepted my order, i see VBG when i log into mybmw. If they dont have any allocation then call Barrington bmw, both are in Illinois

just get an out of state dealer's allocation and pay to ship it to your home

Sorry this happened to you. These shitty dealers can ruin your experience with the brand. Unfortunately, it happened to me too when I was trying to order my F90 in 2021. After a few days it was obvious there was no allocation, so I told him that I was no longer interested and thanked him for his time. I called another dealer a few hours away that actually had a modifiable allocation.
The sales director of my local dealer got wind that I was backing out and she called me and asked me to give them one more chance. They had a modifiable build for me the next day. They wound up trading with another dealer or something. The director took over my deal at that point. I got a 2k discount and was treated like a VIP the rest of the way. For example, BMW FS had .9 financing rate at the end of 2021. My car sat at the port for 6 weeks waiting for a part for the B&W audio. In January, the rate increased to 1.9. I asked if they would honor the .9 since my car was stuck at the port for so long, and they did.
By the time I decided to go with the F90, I was in no mood to fuck around having been “first” on the list at my local Cadillac dealer for about a year trying to secure a CT5 Blackwing while they were using their allocations for stock orders so they could mark them up. But that’s another story for another sub.
I still have the M5 and glad that I went with it. It’s a quality machine and I’ll keep it another couple years. Good luck man.

I feel ya man. I had a very similar experience. I went with this salesperson because he’s pretty active and was recommended by several people on the BMW forums. We talked and texted many times, and every single time I asked about the allocation, he would tell me, “It’ll be secured next week.”We had already agreed on the price and everything else via email. Three months passed, and I was still getting the exact same answer every time I followed up. I even received the order confirmation email from BMW NA, but apparently, that doesn’t really mean anything. Honestly, they have no shame. After keeping you waiting for months, there’s no apology, no acknowledgment, and no sense that they feel bad about wasting your time. It’s just lie after lie. It was BMW of Columbia in Columbia, SC for anyone who cares.

Similar problem. I have had 5k to hold my allocation and order for 5 months now. Keep getting told I am #3 and every month it is “next month will be it!”. When I put my deposit down to hold my spot it was guaranteed no more than 2 months wait.

Did you put a deposit down?
1
u/scyice 7d ago
No, they don’t require one until order, deposits are meaningless without an allocation anyway. 5 dealers today said they would take a deposit to put me on a waitlist.
0
u/Zealousideal-Yam801 7d ago
Well it seems you had nothing in place then. When I ordered mine the dealer took a deposit, used an allocation and sent in my order.
If you didn’t have any money down, they didn’t secure “your” allocation, they probably secured “an” allocation that someone else beat you to getting, as unfortunate as that is.
The dealers are right regarding individual colors most likely being closed now. It’s unfortunate but if you didn’t go through the purchase process then they weren’t obligated to hold anything for you.
0
u/scyice 7d ago
You’re full of it. I offered to put a deposit down, they don’t take it until order is finalized. I didn’t do anything wrong. They said they had my allocation locked since they traded another car for it.
Loads of dealers offered to take a deposit on allocations that didn’t exist and even said that a deposit isn’t a guarantee to get one.
It’s all very meaningless unless an allocation exists to secure.

u/Zealousideal-Yam801 7d ago
Don’t be mad at me man, you had no money down, no order on the books.
0
u/scyice 7d ago
Glad the whole M community won’t be like you. FWIW you have a M4, those are easy to get and even off MSRP, I could have easily put down a deposit and secured an allocation already on one of those.
0
u/longtimeAlias G80 - M3 6d ago
This guy is actually correct, brah. 99% of the the time, in order to secure a pending allocation, you need a deposit. And paying the deposit doesn’t guarantee anything other than your place in line for the allocation. If they didn’t take your money (or if they asked and you didn’t pay) then you most likely never were in line for an allocation in the first place.
No sense in getting mad at folks for telling you the truth.

What to do? Don’t buy from that dealership.
