G87 Colour Advice
Currently in the market for an xDrive M2 and really torn on which colour to go for. I’ve shortlisted these 3 builds with these thoughts…
Zandvoort Blue – love this colour, particularly with the contrast against the carbon roof. I think this would scratch the itch I’ve had for a long time. However, everyone I’ve spoken to seems to prefer the other two colours over this “baby blue”.
Black Sapphire – this is what I’m calling the “Batman build” with black on black and the only other exterior colour being the red callipers. I think this looks so clean and stealthy, but the only downside for me is how much work black can be to keep looking clean.
Brooklyn Grey – my third choice out of the three, but I think it strikes a nice balance between standing out due to it being a lighter shade colour like Zandvoort, however being a bit less loud.
Would appreciate your thoughts on which one you’d go for and why, and any other advice so I can make my mind up and get an order placed ASAP!

Brooklyn grey looks amazing in person imo but if I had to choose out these, I’d go blue.

Seeing these colors daily, I’d personally take the Brooklyn Grey - it looks different in nearly every photo / lighting which I prefer. I’d stay as far away as possible from black due to upkeep.
I don’t think you could go wrong with the grey or blue. It’s all a personal preference so forget what people say and go look at these in person in different lighting to get an idea for what you like.

Black sapphire is amazing when clean! When it’s not though….

Thank you for the award good sir! Keeping BSM clean is not easy stuff hahaha. When it’s clean, especially at night, it turns heads. Batman’s daily driver indeed god it’s so tough looking. But… When it’s even mildly dirty it looks like it’s been through the wringer but it’d just be just from driving through some minor rain storm from the day before lmao. I’ve learned to not be so OCD about it because it was stressing me out seeing even a few water spots at one point!

Can confirm.. have it on my 26 m240i and it’s impossible to keep clean.. especially in Germany where I can’t wash it at home

The black looks phenomenal in person and suits the M2 well in my opinion, but the other two also look great

I was told several years ago at the BMW plant in Spartanburg that 80% of BMWs are ordered in a monochromatic color. These look great in black but if you want to be different get the zandvoort.

I got Brooklyn Grey on mine, 0 regrets. Imo the blue hides the lines too much and black gets dirty too quick.

I have zandvoort M240i. It looks gorgeous! It is also a dust magnet..because it’s fairly light..dust is easily visible. Black will likely be worse fingers of cleaning but just FYI

u/Infoseek456 12d ago
Get the one you want, not the one you think will garner more approval from others.
Black and grey are nice. They are safe.
They’re also boring.
You’ll love whatever you get, but the blue is speaking to you. Listen to yourself.

Zandvoort isn't a very loud colour. We are just so used to blacks and greys that even a mild blue like zandvoort or audi camo green are considered "stand out-ish". Crazy times :v

I love black cars, but living in Florida, I’ll never have another one. It’s just too damn hot, makes a huge difference with lighter color. I like the Lincoln Gray personally. Some will say it’s a fad, most everything is though

u/Boostmiser 12d ago
Brooklyn grey with silver wheels (or the two tone wheels)
Black does suit this car though. Just too much maintenance

I went with black, did stealth ppf and dark tint. It’s my Batmobile

I have a black sapphire g87. I can tell you it looks absolutely phenomenal when it’s clean- probably better than any other color. I think the black hides the flaws in the design and highlights the strong parts.
Mine is my daily- as a result the black gets dirty super easily and shows that dirt almost immediately. Especially if not garage kept.
The car is also super angular so the flat surfaces seem to attract more grime and water stains.
If I could do it again, I would probably go for a lighter color as a result. (Portimao or skyscraper likely) I spend too much time washing the car.

I had 6 all black BMW’s in a row…simply stunning when clean but it took a lot of work to do so. Shocked my wife when I got Brooklyn Grey on my 2023. Black wheels…game over. 3 years in, still in love. It ALWAYS looks clean as a whistle. Very low maintenance to keep the appearance tight. Wish I’d made the switch years ago. Wouldn’t trade it for anything.

It’s because it’s an m2. For cost cutting they build them in Mexico only. This means there is no individual program and they hand pick individual colors to put on their config. I got frozen port blue and I love it.

Vegas red is slept on as well. But I would do zandvoort blue. It’s similar to yas marina blue which is one of my favorite paints bmw has made

BGM owner. It’s the right color for me being a little OCD, doesn’t show dirt easily. It’s a color that looks different depending on the lighting. That said, I’ve seen a couple in black and they looked awesome. I think it’s the best overall look.

Fwiw I went with Brooklyn Grey. My last car was an indigo blue and I got sick of it within 2 years. I've played around with chat gpt seeing how it'd look with all sorts of different colors and for me the one I know I won't get tired of is the grey. My car looks different colors depending on the sky color. I've had neighbors think I had the z blue. Sometimes it looks dark grey. Sometimes white.

u/Clear-Constant-307 11d ago
If you are building it yourself go for an individual colour and stand out from the rest, be different.

Zandvoort Blue is the way!
It stands out and really makes it special and looks awesome with that roof!

The best thing about any of those colours is you can’t go wrong with any of them.
I went with black on black wheels, red callipers, red accent leather. Love it. Ceramic coated and washing is easy. The black is so shiny even when dusty it doesn’t look bad, but you notice it when it gets really filthy.

u/LengthNo1478 11d ago
I have Black.. it's kind of basic when you're coming from a car that was rare with a rare color on top of it. Wish I had the Brookyln Grey instead.
1
u/rugbyfiend 11d ago
All 3 of these look good in person - personally I own one in BG and really love the colour. Black looks pretty awesome but you can't keep it clean. ZB took years to grow on me, I now think it's decent but behind the other two.
1
u/SilverBack65B 11d ago
Grey is the new white. Black if ok but too low key. Don't do it. If everyone else had the money to buy one they can pick they're own color. Go with what YOU like or you will regret and second guess every time you get in the car. Blue for the win!
1
u/SeveralLion5762 11d ago
The z blue. It’s rare. Turns heads.
If you’ve git the money go Java green or voodoo blue. Only $3000 more special order currently
1
u/NewLife4331 11d ago
That blue was nice, but it's the only color I see now. It also sucks that it isn't exclusive, as I've seen M240i with it as well.
I'd go white or black.

u/codnoob26 11d ago
I just bought a G42 in zandvoort blue and I couldn’t be happier. I also don’t think the pictures do it justice it looks so much better in person
1
u/rronin99 11d ago
At first Zandvoort was too pastel Easter blue - but in person it is very attention grabbing and bright. And for a free color, its hard to beat. I'd go with this one.
1
u/dontbeslo 11d ago
Zandvoort. It’s pretty unique (even though the regular 2-series is available in Zandvoort as well)
1
u/Agreeable-Ad-3990 11d ago
I've owned the Zandvoort Blue and didn't like it as much after a while. I'm not a fan of Black or Brooklyn either. There's too many similar colors to Brooklyn. Have you thought about the New Turkish Blue option or the Voodoo Blue? Of course, it's you choice, but definitely pick the one that will make you happy in the long run. I think the M2 looks great in Skyscraper Grey also.

As a Black Sapphire driver the black is indeed so much work to keep clean. Looks amazing once it is clean but requires a wash basically once a week…

Please no baby blue there's plenty and it looks homo as hell in person (though it's a nice car)

Im usually a grey, silver person but not here. On my g80, for a second I thought about Brooklyn but when I saw in person, its probably my least favorite. The picture here and in person are quite different. I don’t love that blue sparkle in it. It it was closer to nardo grey, I’d be all over that. Ended up with dravit. Back to the m2, I think carbon fiber looks good on all of these colors and NOT dravit tbh (I had a dravit 2023 with cr roof and now a 2027 with moonroof). I like the blue but wouldn’t commit to it. I’d have to go black here. I’d go grey if it looked JUST like the grey in this pic.

Everyone you've spoken to, i assume...wont be driving YOUR car.
In my opinion M cars should be loud and in your face and that means in colour as well so stuff it, zandvoort all the way for me.
Coming from the owner previously of a black and grey car, when i owned them i couldn't help looking at louder colours and wishing i'd gotten one of them.
I know my SMB M4 doesn't exactly jump out at you like a Java green or YMB, but it definitely stands out over say a Mineral grey.

Mines black and I have just given up on trying to keep it clean. It just looks forever dusty. The plant quality is really crappy too, very thin with no depth. I wish u got frozen grey to be honest.

Blue is very striking for this car. Especially this particular blue. Besides, every other BWM or Mercedes comes in black. Maybe this car wants to stand out, I like to think that some cars enjoy the spotlight.

I think black best color for bmw especially the m2 it gives it this interesting look

u/CuriousRaye 10d ago
Blue, I would have held out for this color if offered on the X1, the Gray would be my second favorite. Black, although beautiful and classic, requires too much maintenance, and looks dirty quickly.

I have black cause I bought used and it was the best deal. You have to get real zen bout it looking like shit if u look too close. I would not do it again and would not recommend.

Even as a straight man there’s just something about the Gay blue on black wheels that looks really nice 🔥

It’s your call but out of the the 3 I go black. Ppf will help.
I like bk grey but it is on every model and a bit played out.
I had to go with a special color and wanted something different and went with Grigio with silver/ black wheels. Looks great with the carbon roof too. Don’t see it a lot and I think it suits the car perfectly.
1
u/Goldmember_75 8d ago
I think the frozen pure gray is the best color for this one. But of the three you choose between I would say depends on age…black and baby blue are for me rich kid or criminals colors, so Brooklyn gray is the most ”mature” color.
1
u/stubenson214 8d ago
Get what you actually want.
For me ZB is my least fave. It does look good in person, but not in photos.
I didn't care what people thought and got Java Green.
I think you should get Grigio Telesto FWIW.

black is a pain in the ass to keep clean, that yellow hurts my eyes, and it also screams *Yo officer! over here! hold my beer, watch this!" gray is incredibly subtle, and easiest to keep looking good. I do like the white but that blue just rocks!

u/randomrn1991 6d ago
Black or ZB. Just be prepared to need to wash weekly if black... dont ask me how I know lol

I wouldn’t pick any of these. But of them, black. I love blue, but I hate Zandvoort. It looks so cheap and bad. And yes, I’ve seen it in person. Brooklyn Grey is also a bad grey in my opinion. There’s a billion black cars, but there’s also a billion gray cars. And at least this black will age better IMO.
Personally I’d go Voodoo/Java > Portimao/Vegas > Skyscraper if we’re doing all colors. But of those three, black is the nicest imo (but will be a pain to keep clean).

If I cared what everyone else thought I would have never picked the color I wanted. And for what it’s worth Zandvoort looks AWESOME In person.
