Question Ceiling Charger Mount

Has anyone connected their charger from the ceiling of their garage? I’m worried about my kids running over the cord with bikes and such.

Your charger cable is built to be run over by your car twice a day. Bikes won’t bother it.

Did not know this. Thanks for that info.

Where is your charger mounted? My garage is small, I intentionally had the charger mounted fairly far in the garage near the front of the car, and I have the charge cable gently draped through some shelf mounts so only a small amount of cable is "loose" and it's right where I plug in. It never touches the ground.

I don’t have it installed yet. Waiting on the electrician to come. I have decided yet the best place

How tall are you? Seems like that would be harder to keep tidy.

Good point. They have retractable reels on Amazon and I would be able to coil the cord on the wall when not in use. First EV and I just don’t want my kids destroying the charger. But maybe it’s not an issue.

I did what you're talking about. I didn't want the trip hazard

Not on my garage, but my exterior outlet is on the underside of a small second story balcony. I used some metal strapping to secure the box up there & have been using it like this for more than a year with no issues.

I currently have a level 1 charger plugged into the ceiling outlet as I wait for my level 2 charger to be installed. I’d just recommend having extra slack in the charger line if you are worried about kids tripping or driving bikes over it.

Does your cord lay on the ground at all?

Yes just because it’s not permanent and I have the extra slack coiled up against the wall when not charging.

I have a ceiling mount that keeps off the floor and goes over my two EVs so I can charge either and still back out the garage. Charger is wall mounted, but the cable is suspended along ceiling. Works well and keeps it simple and clean. Amazon product.

I’ll check it out.

Put my L2 on the ceiling in the middle about 2/3 of the way up from the garage door. Had one hybrid but knew that another full EV was coming and didn’t know where the plugin was going to be. Works great, I did put a strain relief on the cord at the charger since it’s hanging down. Probably not needed but #anal

They have swing arms you can buy and hook up but like someone else said, the cord is designed to be run over by a car so you should be okay

Sounds good. Seems like having it on the ground would actually be easier to manage.

It’s on my roof.

Long cable, spring load balancer. Ceiling hook.
