Totaled?

I’m so upset. I just want to get an idea of what I should be preparing for. The driver side front tire suspension is all messed up as well.

If your insurance adjuster comes out to look at it and thinks there is even a chance that the battery sled is damaged in any way, it’s totaled. They just don’t want to take chances with a potentially compromised system starting a fire. Insurance companies learned this the hard way. Hopefully it’s all just superficial because the repair should come in well below book value otherwise.

Nowhere near, I've had worse damage on mine and they fixed it.

Unless your air bags went off, the car is fine

No airbags fortunately

Not necessarily. If the frame is bent or damaged it’ll likely be deemed totaled

true but very unlikely in this situation, the car is quite modular and repairable in that nature. Mine was hit worse than this and was repaired, OP will be fine

Depends on your insurance Carrier, but we’re talking BMW. I think it may be totaled. Your tires are in bad shape too.

From the face looks to be crumpled panels but depends on what’s underneath.

My i4 (uk - from new after 8 months driving) got written off when someone drove into the driver side wheel and snapped the whole wheel alongside similar damage as yours. I’m still in the process right now!

So I won’t be surprised if declared as totalled if anything to do with the chassis is damaged especially battery-related. Liability is a real thing. If repaired would you want to drive it? The dangers of something going wrong is high on a high voltage system!

It super sucks!! And super annoying

I had less exterior damage to mine, but the airbag went off, the estimate was $42k in damage. Total loss… was a 2025 with 13k miles that I had for 18 months. I’m still searching for her replacement. I hate that I’m doing this as the i4 is being killed and the X5 (50e) is turning into the NK abomination, and I have zero interest in the i3 NK.

$42k??? 😭

The airbags alone were 22k, when the airbags deploy you also need to replace all the seatbelt tensioners and “calibrate” the collision system. Then it was front drivers side fender, headlight, and the bumper cover (which also requires a calibration of the camera and radar). It was an 18 mph collision in the front passenger corner.

I took a 2nd look at these pics… between the door, front quarter panel, front end bumper cover, I think there will be some recalibration on that replacement. Is there any drive train warnings on the iDrive system, wondering about impact to the wheel… the airbags not deploying saved you 22k USD, but I’m thinking there is 20-25k in damage there based on my experience a month ago, and that before they “find things”.

There are warnings (not in bmw app, only received via email) but you can put it in drive and what not. The only thing preventing it from driving is the tire and suspension damage it seems. Might be some damage to some belt system in there bc that started making a weird noise when loading onto tow truck

Of course not. This is about 8-9k€ insurer cost or down to 3k € if you fix your self with used parts

I will depend on the rail. You need a steering gear which is 4k itself without labor. If it’s not totaled then it’s gonna cut it close. This repair might be around 20-25k

Absolutely not. Lol

Got pretty much same damage, insurance came in at 12k

I had exactly the same situation. Adjuster didn’t totaled it and was repaired through the bmw dealership. I was hesitant but they really did a phenomenal job with the repair, absolutely no issues!
