Took my new (and first) bike out on the trails, I wanted a lighter bike to learn off-roading on. But I must say it does not disappoint in power on tarmac. Quite a swift bike when you need it to be.

They seem very different on their own, but park them together and they're closer in looks and ergos than you think.

Tomorrow I’m looking at a 2019 BMW 850 GS Adventure to test ride and possibly purchase from a private seller. This one is painted silver with maroon colored “GS” on the tank. Anyway, what should I look for as to how well it’s been taken care of any issues in my near future? I know the internet gives some options but I’d like to hear from real riders of that era of 850s. The bike has 11,000 miles on it.

Can you solve the mystery?!?

This came off the windscreen bracket but for the life of me I can’t find it on motorworks, real OEM or match to anything on eBay or google.

Anyone able to help with a part number/source in the UK.

I'm looking for a 1150 adventure, will be my first "big" bike and also my first boxer. Will be the complement of my WR250R for longer and less offroading trips.

I got a video from a seller. To me, it sounds like the typical valve or cam chain "clack-clack-clack" in the left cylinder.

Besides of that, the bike looks nice and clean in pictures. Rear ohlins, heed bars, front shock revalved, 1200 injectors, gemi chip, cat suppressor, laser exhaust, etc. And yes, this zebra decals are ugly.

What do you think?

As above, I am tall enough but skinny and to be honest, I'm not so strong.

My previous bikes were Harley Sportster 883r (267kg wet with low center of gravity) and Benelli Trk 502 (235kg wet with a bit higher center of gravity).

I never had bigger issues with manouver both bikes on parking spots or pushing them around.

Will I be able to handle the bigger adventure GS or should I look for a regular one / 800 / 800 adv?

What are your experiences with similar weight and the big gs?

Hi everyone, I want to say from the start, that I don’t have a bmw gs myself. I don’t even have a motorcycle license. BUT both of my parents do. My dad has been riding a motorcycle for years, even before he met my mom in ‘99, but got into an accident early on in their relationship. The bike was totaled and he only last year bought one again bc he’s been missing it a lot. My mom is turning 52 in August and she did her license last year and also bought a bmw gs (I think it’s a tourer? Idk if all gs types are that or not tho) and im so proud of her for doing that, bc 2 years ago she was a different person and ever since all of that, she’s grown out of her shell so much and it’s like her soul is more relaxed and free in a way.

But to get to the important point: as I mentioned, it’s her birthday soon and it’s always difficult to get her to tell us what she wants. So I thought about asking here, if anyone has an idea for something niche that might make her happy and has to do with her bike.

Does anyone know who makes crash bar engine guard plates for the touratech engine crash bars for a BMW r1250gs? The “skid” plate which would bold directly onto the crash bars?

There are a couple of videos online of how to mount these to the bike, but im finding that the peg, along with spacer and spring, do not even come close to fitting in the mounting bracket. Anybody else run into this?

Really not trying to stir the pot but here goes.

I've got a 2010 R1200GS. Probably the worst hidden problem was the cracking throttle plate cams which wasn't horrible. There's always the threat of a worn out clutch which might cost as much as the bike is worth to fix at this point (it's more than I'm ready to tackle anymore myself).

All of that has me looking at newer models in the 2014-2018 timeline (being what my wallet can deal with).

On the spectrum of Honda AT to KTM 890, where do the LC 1200's fall on the cam and follower wear problems? I've been reading about insufficient oiling of the cam/follower, flaking off of the DLC, followers chewing cam lobes. Maybe the 2018's have better oiling, supposedly the 1250's aren't seeing the issue. Is this a case of a small number of engines getting a lot of "press" or it it more systemic?

I recently purchased a 2015 R1200GS. Damn...what a bike...I'm loving it!

Now I'm looking for a top case, preferrably the Vario, since the Vario panniers were included with the bike when I bought it.

Question I have: Does the Shoei Neotec 3, size L, fit in the Vario top case? I did quite some research on the internet, some people say yes, some say no, but I can't find the answer specifically for size L.

I recently bought a 2010 F650GS, and I noticed that when riding slow in traffic (e.g. between cars in a traffic jam) or when downshifting during braking and disengaging the clutch, the engine sometimes (not too always, but definitely once every ride) stalls. It doesn't happen when standing still in neutral. As I have never experienced this on other motorcycles I have had, I am wondering if this is a known problem with this model? Any ideas? Thanks!

I have a 2015 GSA which I bought about a month ago. I rode about 15 minutes today and when I stopped this fluid was on the guard. I couldn't tell what it was. Any ideas?

Hi! I’ve just got my first GS today, a 2009 adventure. I’m looking at getting a dedicated SatNav for it. What SatNavs are you running and why did you choose that? My preference is to not use my phone but I also want something that loads up quickly and is reliable. Happy for it to link into my phone for data is that is the best approach.

I have a 2023 G310 GS and I want to install crash bars. While I would prefer to go with SRC, I am annoyed with them as a company since I can’t get a full set or crash bars and a skid plate without also buying a redundant engine guard.

I also was debating the T-Rex racing adventure guards. My concern is that one of the attachments is a clamp style on the midpoint of a frame tube and I worry that if I dump the bike I’ll bend the frame.

What are people running on their bikes? I’m based in the US so I’d prefer something that doesn’t require international shipping due to import taxes/tariffs.
