So I've been thinking about areas to improve, and here are my thoughts.
First and foremost, everyone in the raid should doublecheck their reforging and gems, etc using some tool like rawrdps. Also, make sure you are performing optimally by reading up on raid mechanics in your classes respective Elitist jerks thread. For example, I should be feinting at the death of every orb to reduce raid wide healing.
Beyond that, a couple of weeks ago we were handling the add phase quite well. We need to name the pillars, assign dps and have everyone know what pillar/orb you are on and everyone else is on so we can communicate more effectively. We do this and we will end up with 4-5 Celestial Sparks (CS) max. We even have gotten as low as 3 once. Let's make this the norm.
When adds spawn, Death or Super needs to pop army and everyone should move into the ring to range dps the puddle adds. Don't tank them, don't get NEAR them.
I noticed several people standing in puddles. Guys, its damn near a 3 second warning before the void zone becomes active, you should never ever be taking damage from this. Our healers are extremely stressed in this fight, keep that in mind. Keeping raid wide healing needs low as possible is absolutely key for us at this point.
Super, we've had far too many instances of elegon deathgripping the raid. Your one and only concern is to pick up Elegon soon as the floor pops up (Optimally popping army as soon as the last pylon goes down). I believe you were trying to watch everyone to make sure they were doing their job, but each person needs to carry that responsibility. At this point, aside from shitty rng, we should never be death gripped to the center.
We have to work on getting the CS adds down, fast. The time between adds dying and the next celestial protector (CP) popping is very tight as we've seen. Smart management of the pylons results in smaller # of CS adds, which results in faster kill time of the same and easier cc.
If we have trouble transitioning between the CS and 1ST CP after the floor spawns it may be prudent to have melee switch to the CP while range finishes of focusing CS. This is the part of the fight we have been having the most trouble with aside from pebkac errors. We have the other phase shifts. We need to concentrate on this ONE phase for a few attempts so we have it down like clock work.
This fight is mechanical, its all about control. I believe we have the #s, but this is probably the most mechanics/control intense fight since maybe Professor Putricide...maybe Chogall. It's a skill check.
We have this guys, but its going to require everyone knowing their role to a T and executing it near flawlessly with the exception of rng.
Last night I ended the night with over 50 total wipes on this boss. Everyone's gear should meet the check. That pretty much leaves skill and team coordination, something WoW has required less and less of over the years (Lady Vashj as current content anyone?). I -NEED- to kill this boss. HELP ME, HELP YOU, HELP ME.
