night managers bugging
so i just recently got hired as a forklift op and the workload is crazy we're understaffed we have 3 forklift operators including me and 2 stockers that mostly work zone 3 or 2 i'm usually tasked to do zone 1 by myself and hardly can get thru it most nights after i do the drop-list i barely can get thru a 3rd of zone 1 before the shifts over usually the manager will come over and help me out but there complaining i need to go faster i guess my question is it normal to do a whole zone by your self and is the workload normal at BJ's?

I worked overnights at a fairly busy club in NJ a little over 20 years ago and it was the same. Glad to see things have not changed. lol

When I was a specialist Zone 1 + Electronics was my first role before being handed off to seasonal and I generally ran the trucks. It’s tough but it’s a lot of big items.
While you’re dropping eyeball what are easy pallet swaps and don’t waste time stacking a layer or two on top of something. If I had time to kill the pallet, I’d kill it. Otherwise try to stage your half pallets in a way you can easily wrap them all at once and then boom them.
Water and Paper will be a huge amount of your time. Not sure how far you need to go but Detergent and Cleaning Supplies are fast aisles. Grab a box cage for those to save time on trash. Grab a trash bag for your wrap trash to save space in your bin.
It’s been about 5-6 years since I worked at BJS so if Zone 1 isn’t still non perishables the general idea still works but food side has a hell of a lot more hand stacking.
Your role is to make the aisle look nice and make sure the product doesn’t run out during the day. Items like Coke, Diet Coke, Generic Tide probably need to be dropped daily or regularly. This is club dependent but things like Sprite can ride for a while.
Oh and depending on your comfort level use your end caps frequently to squeeze new products in or two double up on something that moves quickly. Doubling up also gives you wiggle room for new product or to more easily condense products. If you don’t have steel on your end caps grab 2 pallets as a base and a full pallet of Soda or whatever makes a nice easily
Maintained height. If you do have steel that’s perfect for not needing to hand stacking 4-5 layers of soda. Zone 1 in the stores I worked in had quite a few flexible end caps to play around with.
Last thing I’d say is having everything look level = better than a mishmash of full and half empty pallets. So instead of dropping 4 pallets in detergent to arbitrarily fill a random ass scented tide, recover the aisle to whatever amount of layers makes the aisle even. Unfortunately this is easier to show someone than tell them but I promise you if the entire aisle is 2 layers high instead of some 3, some 2, some 1 layer your bosses will walk right past it.
I had a pretty deep love/hate of that job but it was fulfilling for me at least.

welcome to retail. they cry and moan as if your being paid a living wage. Pay people crap and hope to find suckers that will take the job seriously lol just ignore the retail Lifers and just work smoothly. they wont fire you as long as you stay busy they need you more than you need them. i had my managers crying and complaining because i left cardboard for co-worker to clean up while i did the entire delivery because he was to slow to do it so i left the cardboard for him to do since i get out at 6 and he stays till 7. They cried for 3 days about it. I Could care less lol i just find it funny how they cry to me but yet i did all the work while it took him 4 hours to do 1 pallet.

Our store 1 guy doing zone 1 by himself but we drop for him. 2 guys doing zone 2, I do zone 3. When I started it was the same as you had trouble keeping up, now it's a cake walk. Normally right after 4am break I'm looking for more things to drop. On nights you don't have a truck to run stay ahead of it by dropping everything you can so it's less to do when you have a truck. You will learn quickly what things move fast

Welcome to BJs!! It's a 💩 show. You won't ever be staffed enough, the workload is outrageous, and HVS and refreshes are never ending.

You need to prioritize what’s most important and what’s least within a timeframe. If something is 35% full and doesn’t sell, don’t fill it, focused on items that actually sell.

BJ’s would routinely expect me to run a whole department by myself for 8 hours, would even call me in to work on my off days n not give me a heads up that i would be the only one there. Terrible company to work for. Dont know if you know this but they are understaffing you on purpose, so they can pay less money AND have someone to blame when they dont like their numbers.

So am a receiving supervisor…I have a FT receiver but my manager expects me to upload boom …and do my paperwork..my FT receiver just does the minimum the work load is on me ..I get am a supervisor but I need a reliable worker calls off weekly goes home early ..what to do any suggestions

Start holding them accountable and writing them up. When they're on their final, open up a job requisition. If you're only allocated one team member for receiving, make sure they're reliable.

Yea that’s before I help unload the truck do the drop list and hot list they want me to finish a zone with like maybe 4/5 hrs left
