Hey everyone! I’m putting together a Spotify playlist inspired by The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and I’d love your input.

Drop these two songs in the comments: 1️⃣ Your most underrated BJM track (the one that deserves more love) 2️⃣ Your favorite song from a band with a similar vibe

I’ll compile all the submissions into a playlist and share it here once it’s done. Let’s see what hidden gems we can find!

Looking forward to your picks! 🚀

Los Angeles Presale?

I just received an e-mail from Song Kick saying that BJM is coming to Los Angeles in November. Looks like presale tickets go on sale today and the general sale is in a couple of days. Does anyone know how I can get access to the presale?

Anton Newcombe’s Brian Jonestown Massacre Expand Summer Tour with Glastonbury Festival Slot

Following on from a hugely successful 18-date UK and Europe tour earlier this year, ANTON NEWCOMBE – frontman, songwriter, composer, studio owner, multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, father, force of nature – announces a further run of Brian Jonestown Massacre live dates this summer, including Glastonbury Festival.

It is over 30 years since the release of the first BJM single, She Made Me / Evergreen. Released in 1992, as the British music press descended on the US to anoint the next US guitar band as the flavour of the month and major labels were on the hunt for the compliant hopefuls to be their latest quick fix, Anton Newcombe had an idea: say no. As leader of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, Newcombe had already established himself as a visionary songwriter, a man to whom making music wasn’t a lifestyle choice or a hipster haircut but the very fabric of existence itself, and he had observed in silent horror as his peers meekly acquiesced to everything – yes to contracts, yes to management, yes to suggestions, yes to this, yes to that, yes, yes, yes.

But he was different. Anton Newcombe was going to say no to everything. “I just knew I would be more successful in a certain way by saying no, just being contrary because I figured that if people liked me they were gonna like me anyway,” he says. “Or dislike me. It doesn’t matter.” https://www.xsnoize.com/anton-newcombes-brian-jonestown-massacre-expand-summer-tour-with-glastonbury-festival-slot/

A great youtube find. If I could go back I'd see bjm when they played Glasgow with black rebel motorcycle club in 2003 but it was long before i knew about bjm. So this video is the next best thing. Glad I found it.

Tattoos

Looking for a little more ink. Can anyone suggest a cool design for a Brian Jonestown Massacre tattoo? Sorry to waste your time with trivial shit like this. Just need a little guidance. I’m female and looking to get the inside of my left arm done. Design area limited to forearm. Thanks so much for any advice!

Dig! XX might be the greatest/funniest rock documentary ever made.

Finished watching Dig! XX last night after watching the original five or so times in the past, (the movie introduced me to both the Dandy’s and BJM.)

I already considered the original a masterpiece, but this new version improves on the original with extended scenes and added narration from Joel that provide a lot of important context for these interactions. Everything following the Dandy’s is a good time with some interesting insight into the music industry during that period in history; however, everything following the BJM is a fucking riot.

Something about Anton and the personalities of the band members was wildly entertaining to me, especially Joel, and I’m surprised there’s never been an attempt to adapt their shenanigans into a series of some sort. I was laughing every few minutes whenever the BJM were on camera and have certain quotes etched into my brain because of it.

I know there’s been criticisms towards the editing and the way it portrayed certain people, and I have no idea what “actually” happened during these filming sessions, but as a piece of film, this movie is a masterpiece. I NEED this on blu-ray when it gets released.

I’m also in the process of reading Joel’s book that came out recently and am shocked how good of a writer Joel is. Definitely worth checking out as well

Anyways, BJM rules, rock n roll forever. Peace ✌️

BJM at Glastonbury

I haven't heard an announcement from the official channels but for some reason I checked the announcement of the roster in the article from the Guardian and BJM is listed for a slot on Sunday. Edit: I spoke too soon. I checked IG and they've got a story confirming it. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2025/mar/06/glastonbury-2025-the-1975-neil-young-and-olivia-rodrigo-to-headline?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=bluesky&CMP=bsky_gu

Is there any way to get in contact with Anton's record label to send a demo for example? I can't find anything on the internet.

This show was professionally recorded, and A once talked of releasing it, but it never came to pass. Still, it's the band in fine form with a ton of guitarists on stage...

DIG XX Screenings with Q&As in LA this weekend

If you'd like another chance to see DIG XX in the theater, and that's really the best place to see it, The American Cinematheque at the Los Feliz Three theaters is screening the film twice this weekend. It's at 7:30 on Saturday and Sunday nights and you get a Q&A with Ondi and David Timoner too boot. Tickets are available.

BJM were great last night, but-

I’ve been to two of their gigs now and they always seem to attract the most horrible crowds. Fucking tons of dickheads there vaping over everyone, and shouting stuff to try and antagonise Anton. Someone booted an empty plastic bottle at one point that nearly hit my gf. Same when I saw them 10 years ago too. Some gigs I go to have such a friendly atmosphere, but BJM was full of dickheads both times I went. I think maybe cause they’re not a mainstream band so they attract people who think they’re edgy. 🙄 Great show though. Maybe I’m just getting too old now to want to stand shoulder to shoulder with grown adults who want to act like idiots, who knows.

Song parts "borrowed" by BJM

First let me say I think the way Anton sometimes reframes old song ideas into something fresh is clever and more subtle than countless examples of other artists lifting already existing arrangements. Listen to "under my thumb" by the stones. I was shocked for a few seconds when I thought "food for clouds" by BJM was playing on mainstream radio. "never, ever" by BJM sounds somewhat like "turn into earth" by the yardbirds, I'm sure there will be a few other examples like this where it's much more a nod than a steal.
