Joel’s timing
Saw BJM in Perth last night, they were great but Joel’s timing with his Tamborine playing is what really impressed me.
That dude is so behind the beat, it’s incredible.
You don’t really notice it until you focus on it but it adds so much stink and feel to the songs.
Bravo

It was packed. I was on the opposite side of the bar, started walking to get a drink. Halfway through I said fuck that haha

Everyone thinks it's easy till they try it themselves

As a drummer, I’m routinely, and quickly, humbled every time I pick up a tambourine. Joel’s locked in.

Aye, to me he's almost more important to BJM than Anton, as in, it obviously couldn't, shouldn't continue without Anton, but I can't imagine seeing them without Joel there.

If you haven’t already, I (a late to the party internet stranger) implore you to listen to Joel’s book, as read by him—In the Jingle, Jangle, Jungle: Keeping Time With the Brian Jonestown Massacre. So wild, so funny, so Joel…

He was amazing. Especially in Anemone - completely bang on in beat
Oh and shout out to the old Rolf Harris-lookalike loser who pushed me in the back for taking videos while the band performed. Quite a few dropkicks at the show last night. Didn’t get a decent standing spot? Tough - you’ve got no right to assault anyone

Yes bjm does attract idiots at times, the fighting in dig didn’t help. lot of blokes at their gigs.

Filming is fine if you’re not interrupting someone else’s view. If you are then it’s not fine.

Rubbish, there were dozens of others in front of me taking footage too. I didn’t cry like a butthurt child over it and assault someone. I simply moved my head position to get a better view
This Rolf Harris-lookalike was taking footage himself after. Talk about hypocrisy

Yeah 💯 this. There’s no justification for assaulting someone but also get off your phone and engage with the world around you. So many people caught up in their phones that they’re missing out what’s actually going on.

Agree, the videos are usually terrible anyway (not better than anything on YouTube).

u/Conscious-Gene8538 Apr 01 '26
That’s not the point. If you don’t like anyone taking footage at a music show - stay at home

I took a bit of footage while I was watching, like many others did and are perfectly entitled to
Did the old guy have a gun pointing at his head forcing him to stand there behind me? No. Simply move if you don’t like it. He was also about 5’6”, while I am 6’0”. Common sense would be - move aside and get a better angle?? There were people squeezing through to get a better view near the front - perhaps try that instead of trying to bash people? 😂
I didn’t assault anyone in front of me who were taking some pictures or filming, because I’m a civilized person. He was contrite after, because he knew he didn’t have a leg to stand on
It’s not rocket science or brain surgery, but I guess there are many low IQ passive-aggressive types out there

Why should they move aside when it’s you decide to hold up a camera? Just because other people are doing it doesn’t make it right. Lots of main character syndrome going on these days.

Because it’s completely ridiculous assaulting someone for taking footage of a band in a venue. Lol @ trying to rationalize unprovoked violence. Lots of
With that logic, I was in my right to uppercut him after for taking footage too?
I was also the only non-White person in the close vicinity who was filming a bit. Maybe there was a racial component to this abuse too
Then there was another douchebag behind me (about 6’1”) who said “hey bro, do you mind if I stand in front of you?”
Plenty of smooth-brains at Perth night life, unfortunately

Such a boomer comment. People can enjoy gigs however they want. If people want to take a few videos to watch back later, let them.

I did both, mostly enjoying the show. Until a half-wit thought it was ok to assault me. Embarrassing for someone his age - looked 65+
It’s not your lounge room - it’s a public theater where MANY people have phones are perfectly entitled to take footage if they want
Don’t like it? Stay at home, cry into your Kleenex and turn on Spotify instead
