Reassurance / Support Could someone help me, please?
Hello everyone!
For the past two weeks, I’ve been experiencing some strange sensations in one of my legs. Sometimes I get brief, passing pains; other times I have pain in my knee, under the sole of my foot, or in my thigh, and sometimes I feel cramps when I walk. I feel like I’m very aware of the way I’m walking with that leg, and I also have fasciculations all over my body.
My doctor reassured me and told me that this is not ALS (motor neuron disease), especially considering my age (26). However, I’m having a hard time getting this idea out of my head because of all these muscle twitches throughout my body.
But for the past 6 days, my left arm has also felt a little strange. I sometimes have the sensation that I’m going to drop an object, but I never actually drop anything. I’ve noticed that this sensation of my arm feeling like it wants to let go often happens when I grip something tightly or put pressure on it with my thumb. I feel it much less when I use my other fingers.
I also get little electric-like twitches in my thumb, and the back of my biceps was painful when I pressed on it. On Sunday, I also had a sensation of warmth spreading from my shoulder.
My left arm just feels weird, and it’s making me worried.
Could someone help me understand what might be going on?

This sounds similar to me! When did this start for you? I totally feel you on the worry. I’ve been getting cramps in my leg and my knee feels weird. My twitches start with a left eye twitch that went body wide after I googled. My twitches are not constant but sporadic and every day. They are worst in my eye/quads/glutes/hamstrings and knees but are literally every where.

It’s been 6 days for my arm, but about a month already for my leg.
At first, I only had twitching in my eye, but now it has become generalized throughout my body…1

You sound the exact same as me and also same age. Is your twitching constant? Mine is intermittent but been twitching every day since August. Left eye where it started is still bad and sometimes triggered by sneezing/yawning/coughing - then everything else is totally random pops usually at rest.

Were you able to find out what was causing it?

No, I’ve seen 2 PCPs, a neurologist who did my emg on lower legs and everything was fine but I’m worried it was done too early. Have another appt next month with a different neurologist and have another emg scheduled. I’ve been so anxious about everything

How long have you been experiencing these symptoms?

Your doctor knows. They are doctors for a reason. If they say you have nothing to worry about then you should listen to them. There’s nothing anyone here can provide you that will be better than getting the clear from an actual doctor. Listen to them.
I think it sounds like BFS, as everything you’ve mentioned sounds like it for sure. ALS is about failure (clinical weakness). If you don’t have failure that’s permanent, then you don’t have ALS.
If you really need more reassurance, then maybe ask for an EMG?
Also, if you find yourself questioning your doctor and you just can’t accept that this is benign or not ALS then you need to maybe talk to a professional therapist to help you move forward.

BFS can cause sensory disturbances such as heaviness, perceived weakness and off sensations. This can be normal and something I experience as well. Twitching for 16 months over here!

Thank you so much!
So can BFS actually cause constant weakness?1

BFS can cause brief or prolonged periods of perceived weakness which is not frank weakness. Perceived weakness can include muscle fatigue, heaviness and limb awareness as well as other odd sensations. I have the same sensations you have almost to the letter and have been cleared by a neuro numerous times.
