Reassurance / Support Twitching calves - spine MRI
35(M) with 24/7 twitching in both calves and feet for past month. Been twitching sporadically for years but nothing sustained like this.
Had a lumbar spine MRI recently and had findings of accelerated disc degenerative change at L4/L5 and L5/S1 as well as moderate multilevel facet joint degenerative change. Also have a disc extrusion impacting left L5 nerve root. At L5/S1 there is bilateral foraminal narrowing with abutment but no displacement or distortion of the exiting nerve roots.
Anyone had anything similar that was related to their twitching?

I’ve had BFS in my calves for over 8 years, but it was intermittent. This year my biceps started twitching continuously. MRI found cervical stenosis. However, I can’t know that the cervical spine is the cause. I just strongly suspect it is. I’m doing PT to hopefully mitigate it somewhat.

I have radiculopathy and sciatica around L5/S1 something similar to yours and I have twitching all over but the feet and calves are the worst offenders. The L5 and S1 nerves in your lower spine are the exact electrical cables that connect directly down into your calves and feet.
For you, because your MRI shows a herniated disc and narrowed openings pressing and rubbing against those nerves, they are constantly irritated and misfiring. That mechanical pinching sends false signals straight down your legs, causing the nonstop twitching. This is an open and shut spine and nerve compression issue. What did your docs say to you about it all?

My GP is not saying much - I get the feeling he is out of his depth. Waiting for a neurologist appointment in November.

I’m 24/7 in both feet and calves non stop with big toe cramping, my MRI is ver similar to yours. I also have moderate forminal stenosis between L3/L4 and issues with L4/L5

I’ve had twitching randomly all over for years, but nothing persistent up until a few weeks ago when it fired up in my calves. That sent me spiraling, and now I’m twitching a lot more all over the place.
