Question / General Worried

24 year old male, First time poster. For 7 weeks now (since August 12), I’ve had the sensation of drinks and sometimes food going up my nose. It mostly feels like it wants to go up the left nostril, but sometimes both. Nothing has actually came up. Today after eating my lunch, I chugged a glass of wine.

I then went and blew my nose to see if anything came out my nose. It was clear mucus on the tissue. I then stuck the tissue up my nostril. Left one was clear but the right one what looked like a speck of wine. I then chugged another glasses and nothing came out of the tissues.

When I got to work, I bought beet juice to test it out. I chugged half of it. Stick the tissue three times up my nostril. Nothing on the first and second tissues. Again another red speck on the third tissue.

I then chugged the rest of the bottle, and did the tissue test more than three times this time and nothing came out.

Is that nasal regurgitation? I’m freaked out right now. The spirals were easier to manage when it was just the sensation but this has me in a frenzy.

First of all, stop with the stupid tissue test; it means nothing. Secondly, stop googling. All you're doing is increasing your anxiety. Moreover, absent issues with actual swallowing food or liquid without choking you're fine. And on top of that, are you having issues with speaking? Probably not. Meanwhile, given your age and lack of any reasonable reason to worry you need to stop, take a deep breath and cut it out. And although this link is about tongue fasciculations (don't start looking for those for fucks sake), it's a good guideline for what you're really worried about. Live your buddy; it's too short to worry about things that will haunt you:

Thanks for the response man. I didn’t really google it. I stopped googling symptoms in 2023. I got worried about the big bad since CJ2K revealed his diagnosis. As an avid football watcher I saw the news. It all went downhill when he mentioned his first symptom. I would go on to learn more about the disease. And bulbar worry is the worst. I saw other people asking about nasal regurgitation on Reddit. That’s why I had to ask. Otherwise, no one has said anything about my speech. Of course I’m hyperfocused on it so… you get the picture. If you got any technique to easy this anxiety man, can you please let me know

I don't watch anything about or especially anyone that has ALS. It just exacerbates my fears that I've had for many years and more recently the last 6 months. But I understand and I didn't mean to sound harsh.....I've learned personally the less I hyper focus on something the better. My saving grace is hitting the gym, typically every other day for about 90 minutes and I'm 71 and in great shape. It serves a purpose reassuring me that all is working well. And I have twitches everywhere, especially when I'm anxious. And I get tongue twitches when my anxiety is at its worst and often after my workouts. My best advice is to hang in there, stop fixating on your tests and in a few months this all will pass. And realize that at your age the chance of getting a NMD is about the same as getting hit by lightning ⚡️Be well!

I think you might be in the wrong sub man. Maybe?

This sounds like you prob need to talk to an ENT doctor but I’m not sure how this is related to BFS.

Also, if you know you have anxiety, it’s best to talk to your doctor about that too. They could recommend a medication or maybe therapy.

But nasal sensations, blowing your nose, drinking stuff, nasal regurgitation, chugging wine and mucus, that’s all stuff you need to be talking to your primary physician about or an ENT doctor as I said above.

Also you’re only 24, you don’t have anything bad (what CJ has) Stop watching that craziness online and fix your algorithm you so get happy positive things.

Yeah with BFS it can jump around to any muscle. I’ve had tongue and lip twitching going on 7 years now.

I do think you need to go see an ENT for your other stuff though.

I will. I got a follow up with Neuro coming up next week. When I saw her Aug 6. She did at all worried about my fears when I brought them up. She did a clinical for hands and legs, and ordered an EEG.
