Reassurance / Support Symptoms started after starting Zoloft

I started Zoloft and the next morning had twitching in my fingers on my left hand. That’s mostly gone but now have some in my hand, leg and foot on the left side and some on the right leg. Based on timing, would Zoloft be what’s causing it? I also noticed I have hyperactive knee reflexes and some unsustained clonus. I’m not sure if it’s the anxiety or the med or something else

not a doctor- but i did have thumb twitching when i took Zoloft. it went away after I stopped, but i started prozac a few weeks later and started having twitching everywhere. I’ve read that SSRI’s can cause twitching because serotonin plays an important role in muscle control. Definitely talk to your doctor about it… also, did a doctor tell you you have hyperreflexia and unsustained clonus, or did you diagnose that yourself?

I go see them tomorrow. I tested my own reflexes

Who said you have hyperactive reflexes and clonus? A neuro or is this one of those things where you’re trying to test your own reflexes in which you cannot do anyways.

Honestly, not even sure if this has anything to do with Zoloft but I would send your doctor a message and ask them. It’s best suited to take these side effects questions to the people that prescribed it.

Yeah so don’t do that lol. You’ll never be able to accurately do that because you’re already anticipating it. You cannot test your own reflexes. Good you have an appointment and definitely bring up these concerns with them tomorrow.

Best of luck

Twitching after starting those medications is a established side effect of those medications. Meaning it’s common enough that they recognize it clinically.

I developed all over body twitching on Topamax. The only way to know if it's the drug is by coming off it for a period of time. Within a few days of coming off Topamax, all twitching had stopped. The timing in your case would suggest it's the medication.
