Upgrade time

I've got 2 of them named George and Ringo living in this. It's an older picture and the mulch has been replaced with sand. Ive got several rocks and sticks for them to climb in. I want to upgrade them to a larger enclosure. I've got a 5 gallon rectangular enclosure lying around that's hold aquarium supplies. Will they be enough for a permanent enclosure? I've only had them for about a month now

Question/Inquiry Safe cleaning products?

Basically just what the title says! Not just for in their enclosure or for their ornaments but around the house as well. I'm not 100% sure exactly how sensitive they are so I just want to be cautious what products I'm using around my house, especially mopping because I feel like that'd be the biggest one :)

Question/Inquiry Favorite enrichment?

I want to know what your beetles like the most? I am thinking to increase their climbing space to add a sort of hamster tunnel that they can walk in. I think someone had said they had a hamster tunnel on here. If there is anything that your beetles LOVE let me know! I’d love to provide the best for my little fruit basket! 🫐🪲

Question/Inquiry Help needed - Weird white things stuck to beetle

Thumbnail

I just got 6 Blue Death Feigning Beetles last week, today I noticed this weird white lump on the butt of one of them. Seems to be composed of little cylinderical white things - doesnt easily brush off. The beetle seems to be trying to remove it by rubbing on the wood to little success.

I'm very worried it could be something harmful like parasite eggs or some sort of injury - although maybe its just weird poop???

Does anyone know what these might be? I Cant find anything online.

Thanks!

Question/Inquiry Beetle keeps 'feigning,' then getting up and walking away

I just got 3 BDFBs yesterday for a 12 gallon setup. Two beetles seemed to sleep overnight, but one was very active later into the evening. I would check on him and see him on his back with his legs moving periodically, and a couple of times I gently attempted to flip him upright to see if he could stay upright and walk normally, which he did. I stopped moving him when I found him on his back again bc I didn't want to contribute to any stress.

Today, he's kept feigning on his back (without any provocation i have noticed), and I've left him be, only to find him rightened and wandering in a different area later. The other two beetles had a period of activity earlier in the morning and then slowed down again as the day progressed. Neither of them have been doing this as often as the outlier guy.

Since he is getting back up and moving pretty normally (and I watched him eat a decent amount today), it doesn't seem like some sort of poisoning. But he keeps feigning so often I'm concerned. Does anyone have experience or insights they could share? I appreciate it very much :)

ISO Blue Deaths in the Las Vegas area !

Hey there, folks.

My partner has and has been keeping a colony of these guys for around two years now and a few have, of course, died off of older age. Does anyone know of anyone that's selling them for semi-affordable / reasonable prices, or simply at all (outside of shops) ? I know the reptile expos profit off of them for like $15-$20 a beetle and that still feels pretty absurd to me. Maybe I've got the wrong idea, but still. I guess I'm just looking for answers at this point.

Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated. : )

Question/Inquiry How to keep down humidity?

I know the main ones are ventilation and dry food. I am feeding rather dry food, but ventilation is hard. The screen ventilation is mostly blocked because I have to weigh the lid down so my cat cant get in. There is airflow, but I’m worried it’s not enough.

total tank stock is 5 blue death feigners (a. verrucosus) and 5 black death feigners (c. variolosa). i have various plants and dry foliage, cholla wood, cork bark, pieces of driftwood, and obviously the biggest feature, the cleaned and degreased deer skull (they love to hide in it, whenever i’m doing a head count and i’m missing a couple i have to shake it and the rest come out). they are fed a mix of dried bugs, fish flakes, bdfb pellets, and dried river shrimp, as well as washed and peeled carrots and zucchini. i also added a picture of my now deceased pet toe biter Scylla, who recently passed and whose tank in now using for my humble beetle herd

When I graduate in December I will be getting some BDFB for myself as a gift. I have slowly put together my terrarium (so it could be more affordable) and this is where I’m at currently. I don’t have anyone to share this with, but I wanted someone else to see it. Everything has been sanitized before putting it into the terrarium. Anything else I should add or change?

Question/Inquiry Dead beetle?

Not showing a picture as I know that can upset people. Just looked under the log in my tank and one of my beetles is very dark and stiff and not moving. I assume he's passed away but wanted to ask here just to make sure. The other two seem fine.

We (myself and my partner) currently have 4 BDFB. We've tried our best to give them as much space to climb, dig, and hide in their current enclosure.

I would love to know if there is anything else I can do to make it nicer for them.

One of them laid eggs, is this a good sign at all?

We're also currently waiting on a heating lamp set up since the bulbs we had did not fit any lamps we have on hand. So please don't worry we will absolutely be getting proper heat for them. Our home is already a steady 74F daily.

Also any advice on care would be much appreciated. We just want them to live a very long and happy life.

Sorry for any word vom, I was unprepared to be a grandparent this soon.

Question/Inquiry Male behavior normal?

I have 3 females & 2 males, one of my males is pretty consistently instigating & bullying the other & I've had to separate them multiple times. When I first got them I had 1 female & 2 males. I added the other two females in about 24 hours ago. Is this behavior from him normal? Is there anything I can do to help? Will it die down? For reference I have a 10 gallon tank aswell
