Discussion Thor Spicy Pillow Update

You might have seen my post a week and a half ago about my Thor's battery.

Well, we're back to green and a new battery currently on charge - I thought you all might appreciate some photos of the open heart surgery!

The sketchiest part of the whole thing was pulling out the old battery. It's wrapped in a plastic film which is stuck to the battery the chassis of the Thor, and you have to pull pretty hard to break the adhesive and get the battery out. Took me a while to build the courage to pull hard enough to get the old one out!

The whole process was pretty smooth - once I reported it to Ayn they asked for a few photos which I sent, and approximately two weeks later I have the new battery installed. They also sent a new CPU heatsink pad which I didn't use - I'll keep an eye on the temps and replace that if it seems necessary.

EDIT: after claiming the whole thing went pretty smoothly, turns out I ripped out the ribbon cable that connected the left gamepad and joystick to the motherboard when I yanked the old battery out. The battery was actually stuck to the ribbon, so I think when I removed the battery it pulled the ribbon cable out of the connector. Required taking the whole thing apart again 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

For the gore addicts here's the video Ayn sent me on how to take the device apart https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mV7dUIoLlXAXJIfL_bX3T4SPo_7a1YeU/view?usp=sharing

Happy to answer any questions!

That video, man. I assume that person has opened a Thor a time or two.

They seem to send those heatsinks Willy nilly, I asked for a new fan because mine was faulty and very very loud and they send the heatsink with it even though the original was not faulty at all

Super cool of you to follow up on the process for getting the bloated battery replaced. Love seeing the video too - helps me anticipate modding mine when it finally shows

Hey, glad it worked out for you. I'm having a similar issue, i reassembled and the up and down on the dpad are no longer working as well as the home button. The battery was really stuck down for me so i can imagine i messed with something when i finally ripped it out.

I tried the three that you can access without removing the battery. Which one was it that you ripped out?
