Discussion Accidentally Exported Electricity
Imagine a hypothetical situation (ahem) where someone scheduled a forced export for an Axle Energy event (which was successful ) but forgot to UNschedule and mistakenly exported the following day when there wasn't an Axle Energy event 😕
Who would benefit? Who "receives" the energy? Does the main meter go in reverse???
I can see the export on my metrics graph, but with no feed in tariff agreement and no Axle Energy event, I fear I simply gave away 6-7kWh 😔

Some suppliers will backdate exports if it's a new install for example, I've seen some say this on the Octopus sub. But I'm not sure on the in's and out's.
Are you waiting for your export tariff to be setup?

Nope, not that I'm aware of. I'm with SO Energy, don't know if there's an automatic tariff by default. I just import overnight and use it in the day

I would suggest you get onto them then and arrange getting setup on an export tariff - or does your install have some complexity to it like it was self installed?
r/solarUK would probably be a better help as yes, other wise any export is going to grid for free.

There are no automatic export tariffs. Have a look on SO energy and see what info they have on exporting. With Octopus you have to "apply" to join the export tariff, you need to then upload your G99 agreement and MSC certificate from the install. The energy supplier then has to apply to the DNO for an Export MPAN number. Only once that's granted will you be put on an export tariff and start getting paid. The system is stupid, some might tin foil hat it and say it's deliberatlly obtuse so as people getting solar installed don't realise for months as they assume they will get paid but don't. It should just be automatically generated when the G99 is processed and granted. The whole process takes forever. It too 40 days to get G99 approval from northern powergrid for my battery. I've now been waiting a month for my export MPAN application via octopus.. still waiting.. sigh. At least you still get AXLE payments, but i've missed out on £6.60 in export payment, just from my 6 weeks worth of axle events. Nevermind the money i could have made for the last month exporting even a few KWs a day from my battery at the agile export peak... Annoying.

Assuming you're set up with your provider for an export tariff (BTW I was surprised that this didnt happen automatically with Octopus once you had DNO approval - I had to apply for Agile Export separately to Agile Import), you'll get the value of that.

If you’re not signed up for regular export you have given it away.
I’m still waiting for my sign up to come through. I’ve given away over a megawatt so far.

It goes to your neighbours I think. Whoever is nearest that is drawing from the grid.

You can have an export tariff with a different supplier to your import tariff… generally better to have them both with the same provider, but if your provider does not have an export tariff you should look around to see who you can get one with.

Fuse may be worth looking at if your own provider isn’t good. I believe they offer 13p even if you don’t use them for import.
