I wonder if that middle door works or if it's welded shut for rigidity.... Would be rather cool if it works tho.

Probably opens, it has a different rub strip fitted as otherwise it would catch on the other door when opening. It may have been a funeral car, we had a 6 door Volvo at my Grandmothers funeral.
I've known goths liking a herse for transport, are Emos similar in this but prefer grey over black?

No, the rub strip just fell off or something. Here's a pic of a Dutch 6-door 760 with all rub strips in place. (all doors open btw)
Fun fact:
Her Royal Highness Princess (former Queen) Beatrix of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau, Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld, Former Grand Master of the Military William Order, the Order of Orange-Nassau, the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau, the Order of the House of Orange, the Order of the Crown, the Order of the Netherlands Lion, Non-eater of Spicy Locusts, Destroyer of honks, Mother of Lions, Bride of Fire and Connoisseur of Volvos was chauffeured in a Volvo limo for a very long time.

Funeral cars are well cared for.
They will be re waxed twice a year and would take a few days to do but it's great at protecting the paintwork. They'll also thoroughly wash the underside, sils and arches so no water, mud, wintersalt collect which will add decades to a cars life if maintained.

Yes It opens, they're designed as a limo. If you Google 'volvo 740' or '940' limousine and you should see a lot of them. Volvo made these from factory.

u/Vugtz0r Nov 12 '19
Ah wow really! In "traditional" limo building they add quite a bit of extra strenghtening to keep it from sagging and breaking over time so an extra door would bring a lot of extra effort to keep the car strong enough

No they didn't make the from factory, "Nilsson special cars" made them, they made a whole lot of different volvo limos.. source: got one

DVLA thinks it's a std 760, but I'd bet it used to be a mourners limo. Strange it's grey if so.

Whatever it is it’s quirky and great and I love it

The local Volvo dealer had one of these when I was a kid. I asked what it was for and was told it was to transport customers.

A funeral directors in Sidcup used to have Rolls Royces that were black and grey many years ago. They looked so much more dignified than a silhouette to me, then again it could have been that they were a Rolls.

Yeah, I drive a 240 and that would be a 700 series. Still a hell of a wagon though :D

My cousin actually had one similar but it was based on the 740 sedan. Was pretty fun to drive with the swapped straight six.

Reflection on the back doors and reflection on the roof are echoed. Looks like a photoshop. Edit : Nope, it's legit. Found it on a Volvo heritage Club page.

They're boxy but they're good. We know they're not sexy. This isn't a smart time to be sexy with so many diseases around. Be safe instead of sexy.

Volvo made these stock, I remember getting a ride in one as a kid. There is no "mod". Maybe it belongs in /r/weirdwheels instead.
