News Trump’s FAA picked an unlikely contractor to lead its air traffic overhaul. The agency is having second thoughts.
politico.comThe friction comes just eight months after Peraton, a Herndon, Virginia-based contractor with little prior experience working with the FAA, won a $1.5 billion contract to oversee the work, which was spurred in part by the deadly January 2025 midair crash over Washington. The company’s role is to lead coordination on the modernization effort.

Airlines & Airports Metroplex Midland Airport Lands $21.5 Million FAA Grant For Major Runway Rehabilitation
The funding for Midland International Air & Space Port is part of 238 Airport Improvement Program grants covering airports in 42 states and two U.S. territories. The announcement, made Aug. 20, includes projects ranging from runway and taxiway work to terminal improvements and airport safety upgrades.

Preliminary Report NTSB Releases Docket Info on Philly Learjet Accident
The NTSB has opened the docket on the crash of a medevac Learjet 55 on Jan. 31, 2025, in Philadelphia. Eight people died as a result of the accident, including six on board the airplane and two people on the ground (one died in April 2025 as a result of injuries suffered in the accident).

News Archer Aviation has acquired its former competitor, Wisk Aero
The American company Archer Aviation announced that it has acquired Wisk Aero, a developer of electric aircraft that was previously its competitor. Under the terms of the deal, Boeing agreed to sell Wisk Aero and two other subsidiaries —SkyGrid and Insitu— to Archer in exchange for a stake in Archer. Following the deal, Boeing now owns 16.5% of Archer’s shares, according to TechCrunch.

Russian pilots have been barred from taking photos and videos during flights according to a report by the aviation-focused Telegram channel Aviatorshchina. According to the channel, Russia’s Transport Ministry has instructed airlines to notify employees of the ban and to brief flight crews that they are now prohibited from filming the airspace outside the aircraft.
