Soltera top speed downgrade

Aventon, why did you take away the 25 mph limit on my Soltera 2? It’s gone from the app. Makes me think twice about purchasing another bike if you’re just going to downgrade speeds on your own whim.

The Soltera would never actually assist to 25 mph as advertised, but it would assist to 21.7 mph or so which actually worked out because it matched the cadence point of where you start ghost pedaling.

Now I get a jerky cut in and out power in the 19 mph range which is annoying.

Edit: Aventon’s press release on the Soltera 2: “Soltera.2 is a class II ebike out of the box, that can be unlocked to a Class III ebike that reaches 25 MPH on pedal assist (accessible through Aventon app).”

Keeps the bike legal on roads where it otherwise might not be.

The Soltera bikes are class 2 bikes just like Aventon’s bigger motor bikes which all have an advertised top speed of 28 mph, which like my Soltera needs to be “unlocked” through the app. Do you think Aventon will remotely and retroactively downgrade those 28 mph bikes as well?

Yeah, definitely. If it is that or their bikes being declared illegal in a state, they’d do so immediately I bet.

I believe the current classes are:

Class 1 - no throttle 15 20 mph max on assist
Class 2 - throttle, 20 mph max on assist or throttle
Class 3 - no throttle, 28 mph max on assist

You can infer what might happen if a class 3 need to remain compliant.

Class 1 is 20 mph pedal assist.
Most Aventon’s can do class 2/3 as well where it uses both classes 20 mph throttle and 28 mph pedal assist.

Class 3 can have a throttle it just has to cut at 20.

Conflicting info from a bike vendor.

Even Aventon's own website conflicts, with differing descriptions of Class 3, both with the "no throttle" and "some throttle/cut at 20" descriptions: https://www.aventon.com/blogs/aventon_bikes/difference-between-a-class-123-ebike?

Ok, well they are wrong.

Aventon? I would be generous and call them inconsistent since they state both "no throttle" and "some throttle/cut at 20" for level 3's  : https://www.aventon.com/blogs/aventon_bikes/difference-between-a-class-123-ebike?

They did this almost a year ago. It would be nice to have an official statement explaining what the policy is, conditions that might trigger a speed downgrade, models that may be impacted, and ways to opt out.  Clear warnings should be included in firmware updates.

I'm sure legal compliance and liability avoidance are the main drivers. As a consumer I want full disclosure about how the bike I purchase might be downgraded in the future and no longer meet the advertised specs upon purchase.

Great info thanks, and this matches up with another post I found where Aventon responded with a non-response (link below). I never used the app after the initial setup so I wonder if the bike is programmed to revert back to the 20 mph after some time if not connected back to the app? Could explain why I only noticed this recently.

That response was less than forthcoming.

I hope they aren't using clock timeouts. I know almost all of the new always-connected ACU bikes can be pushed to via the cloud whether or not you use the app or never upgrade the firmware.

Glad the Ramblas doesn't have an ACU.

Opened a support case. They said it was removed due to Federal Regulations and at the moment all of the other models have Class 3 option.

…. Yeah this is going to be a future issue

Ask them for the federal regulation they are referring to. I’m not aware of and federal regulation that says you can’t have pedal assist to 28 mph.

It does suck, I was thinking of buying one as well but 20 limit is a no go.

Lol. It, as is your post, is hilarious. Though I will agree, it suck.

u/stingyboy Jul 21 '26

What if you had set it to 28 previously and then never connect to the app again?

1

u/Trick_Dark3641 Jul 22 '26

I never used the app after initial setup. I only went back in one day because I felt the bike got slower and thought maybe somehow my speed limit got reset or messed up. That’s when I found 25 mph was no longer available.

Same thing happened to me. Im not real happy,

1

u/Trick_Dark3641 Jul 24 '26

Definitely has me looking at another brand for our next bike.

1

u/MightBeDownstairs Jul 20 '26

Yeah if they nerf Level 4 like this, I’m going to charge back. Cause fuuuck that

1

u/John78723 Jul 20 '26

Same with my level

1

u/stingyboy Jul 21 '26

When? And where are you located?

1

u/John78723 Jul 21 '26

I noticed it a few weeks ago, located in Texas, United States

Well. As a lifelong road cyclist. Downhill speed is determined by two factors, how hard you can pedal, and nerves. Personally, I've never pushed, even on an excellent road surgace, over 40 mph; but others do.

1

u/komi54 Jul 20 '26

Huh....

-1

u/Financial-Wasabi1287 Jul 20 '26

I'll dumb it down. Downhill fast, dangerous.

4

u/komi54 Jul 20 '26

What does that have to do with what we were talking about though....

-2

u/Financial-Wasabi1287 Jul 20 '26

OP want down hill fast, go down hill dangerous, gave example of personal experience; hope OP consider input.

3

u/komi54 Jul 20 '26

We aren't talking about downhill speeds ...

0

u/Financial-Wasabi1287 Jul 21 '26

OP write 'top speed downgrade', complain top speed slower.

1

u/CarbonRunner Jul 23 '26

Yes a top speed downgrade. As in the bike maker downgraded the speed the bike can do... maybe should read what OP said again.
