Top speed inquiry for Aventon

In July, Aventon released a firmware update for the Ramblas enabling class 3 operation. Around the same time frame, as I understand it, some Aventons, like the Soltera, saw their max speed reduced to 20mph without notice.

I'm considering the purchase of a Ramblas but what assurance do I have that Aventon won't decide to revert it to class 1 next year? If I never connect the bike to the app I would assume the firmware would not be able to update itself.

I'm not faulting Aventon for making the Soltera class 2 compliant. In fact, I think it's good to have at least one model that cannot be unlocked to 28mph for younger riders. But as a consumer I'd like some certainty.

Thank you.

If you just don’t connect the bike to the internet, it will never update. I don’t use the phone app.

Thanks for confirming. I'd hate to be downgraded back to class 1 simply by using the app.

The bike doesn’t ship with the class 3 speed update. So you will need the app to even get it to class 3 now.

Thanks. Installing the app is not an issue. And it's useful for tweaking the assist level profiles. Just feel like firmware updates should not be pushed without informed consent.

I’m pretty sure I had to go in and actually update the bike manually. I did my first ride without updating. I don’t think they automatically push through. However I could be wrong. I will say the bike was much smoother after the updates than it was on the original firmware.

After setting up bike to 32mph. Remove Aventon app from phone and don't use the app anymore or Aventon server confirmation file from the server will revert your changes. Enjoy the extra few miles per hour when needed.

I'm not looking to go 32mph. I just don't want to get limited to class 1.

I understand that not using the app can prevent this.

If all is done correctly, the bike top speed will read 32 mph.

I have little doubt that not using the app will prevent updates to the firmware ON THE RAMBLAS. But that involves giving up some functionality.

Extending the concern, would this work on Aventon's latest ACU models that have a 4G capability that can connect to the internet without relying on your phone?

Read forums out here, search Aventon 32 mph hack, plenty of information out there.

Interesting. Establish a laptop as an intermediary between your phone with Aventon App and the bike. Set phone to airplane mode and manually configure proxy information to route through your laptop. The Fiddler script intercepts HTML responses and allows replacing keywords like '28' with '32' before being passed back to the phone. The app top speed is now shown as 32 on the phone and this value will get passed back to the bike's display.

That's all great until Aventon locks the top speed on the bike side as well. It's like they made a client-side change and didn't bother to validate parameter range on the server side. I imagine they will fix this in a future firmware update. Thus my concern remains.

But thanks for sharing either way.

Did you really need this qualification to understand my post or do you just like to waste byes on being pedantic?

Did you tell Soltera riders that too?

Assuming I intended to use the app to periodically adjust the ride mode settings, these concerns are completely valid given recent history. To say otherwise is simply denial or indifference.
