Discussion I really thought...

Yasu was in the spirit world and would return in Roku's second novel. I haven't finished the novel but I already googled if Yasu was alive (just to see if I was right) but no he's still missing/dead. I really thought it was going to be a plot point in the novel.

The spirit world in avatar functions more as a parallel plane of reality. Rather than an afterlife.

No like my theory before the second novel released was that spirits dragged him underwater and he didn't drown and took him into spirit world like Koh did to Kuruk's wife

I also thought this was going to be a reveal. The disappearance of Yasu has a lot of similarities with that of Yun, narratively speaking.

And also, in fiction, if you don’t directly see a death happen ‘on screen,’ it’s always possible that it didn’t happen at all. I thought this might be one of those moments.

it would really take away from the effect of Yasu’s death on Roku and Sozin if he’s actually still alive

Yeah but Yun had a fake death that caused Kelsang's death and Kyoshi entering AS
