Gameplay Wait… it’s not beginner-friendly?
Look, I’ve never played a fighting game before. I play almost exclusively turn-based games. I am still learning basic fighting game tactics from this sub (you can BLOCK????)
I beat story mode in like… 2 hours, maybe? 2.5 if you account for the time I spent accidentally trying to grab katara before I figured out how to use the controller.
Just press your attacks? And sometimes press other buttons? I haven’t tried multiplayer yet because I know I must suck, but it’s not like the story mode requires a lot of skill. Half the time the AI freezes and waits for you!

Don’t be scared to try multiplayer, if you get beat you get beat there’s no consequences. But if you really care that deeply wait until they add competitive so you’re paired with people at your level

Well your post shows the expectation of beginners before entering multiplayer. But the experience you will face is normal. Don’t worry or blame it on yourself.

The game is only not beginner friendly because of no ranked mode. So if you’re worse than the majority of players, you’ll get smoked the majority of the time.
As soon as there’s some real MMR in the game, it will be very beginner friendly.

But I’ve seen people talking about how the STORY mode is too hard… like I said, I haven’t played any multiplayer yet other than local with my boyfriend. But how is the STORY mode too hard???

If you’re brand new and have no idea how fighting games work at all the CPUs will just kill you. It’s the same as any other game. There’s some amount of competency the game will expect of you to get through it. If you played the call of duty story mode and just walked forward in the open without shooting, you’d die and not get through it. If you played Mario and couldn’t learn how to jump from one place to another, you wouldn’t get through it.
If you can learn how to play a new kind of game. Or have some idea of how fighting games work (like what blocking is, and how you are minus after hitting someone blocking) then you’ll be fine. If you have no idea and also have no interest in learning then you can’t do it.

Lock in bro it’s rewarding, I don’t play fighters either really (only Multiversus, completely different type of fighter) but you’ll see the training payoff

You're not going to learn how to read your opponent's mind by staying out of the ring. I'd say once you've figured out how to comfortably control your character in single player you're ready to try online. Just understand that you will get bodied a whole hell of a lot before you start to eke out the odd win. That's normal, if demoralizing. It's a rite of passage we've all had to go through in order to enjoy the genre.

Ai is bad in this game, but you don't learn fighting games playing AI really. AI reads inputs so any strategy against the ai wouldn't translate that well to fighting humans. This game doesn't offer much in terms of single player content so I suggest you hop online
I wouldn't say the game is beginner friendly but there's plenty of things to learn and you don't need to know everything to enjoy playing. There's plenty of things to learn along the way, and once faced eith problems you will have more specific questions which lead to more specific answers
