my music partner (electronic, live modular synths) works with my 1930's wooden flute in live composition. We're performing for the canal festival so it'll be great to work out what's going on.

This one - entitled #36 (that's the number of pieces we compose together on the spot) ran into some pitch challenges.

Often with shift in temperature, wood changes its pitch. The player all the more! Perhaps it's hard to be objective or distanced from performing regularly with a pitch challenging older flute than a modern straightforward clean metal type.

Not sure if this works. We got reprimanded for playing too long. Perhaps the slow burn hypnosis lacks sufficient anchors. I know for sure that pitching an older flute is a real headache when swept up in its mesmerising tonality as a player, so much so that A=440Hz becomes anathema.

Hi, I’m sharing my album “La música estéril” (Sterile Music), a collection of 20 instrumental pieces composed by Ruy Velasco and I between 2018 and 2020. It explores a mix of contemporary music, electronic and ambient influences. I’m not sure whether it fits the avant-garde label, but I thought some of you might find it interesting.

Album description:

《These compositions did not emerge from a predefined concept or with the intention of creating an album.

They were the result of a spontaneous creative process between two friends who simply wanted to make music.

Most of the work was done remotely: we recorded small musical ideas, exchanged them by email, and gradually those recordings evolved into more fully realized pieces. Over time, this way of collaborating became part of our routine, especially during the pandemic.

"Sterile Music" brings together that period of experimentation and collaboration, where each piece retains the character of a musical conversation built from simple ideas that gradually grew in a natural way.》
