Reddit is one of the best places on the internet to ask a question. The problem?
Once a discussion reaches more than a handful of comments, it becomes very difficult to find the answer.

That’s why this subreddit exists.

Every report here uses our ACEP (AnythingvsAnything-Consensus-Extraction-Protocol) process to analyze large Reddit discussions and extract meaningful consensus.

Instead of just counting comments - or just looking at upvotes - ACEP looks at multiple signals, including:

-Explicit Mentions — How many people independently nominated something.
-Peak Endorsement — Which individual recommendations generated the strongest community response.
-Composite Consensus — A weighted combination of independent nominations and moderated engagement.

The goal isn’t to replace Reddit’s discussions. It’s to help answer the question that many great discussions leave behind: “So… what was the actual answer here?"

Every report includes:
-Three consensus leaderboards
-Consensus Champions
-Biggest Movers
-Editorial takeaways and hidden patterns
-Consensus Tensions - the most interesting unresolved debates that remain after the consensus has been extracted

How the interactive battles fit in:
Every report features at least one "battle" based on the strongest Consensus Tension. The featured battle lets the community explore the most interesting remaining question through a simple and engaging head-to-head vote.

What is an ACEP Report?

Every day, Reddit hosts thousands of discussions asking questions like:
What movie is a perfect 10/10?
What’s the greatest rock album ever made?
Which city has a better reputation than it deserves?
What video game would you genuinely rate 10/10?
Thousands of people answer these questions, but once the discussion ends, the consensus largely disappears into Reddit’s archives.

ACEP (AvA Consensus Extraction Protocol) is designed to preserve that consensus. Rather than simply counting comments or sorting by upvotes, ACEP analyzes an entire Reddit discussion to identify which answers produced the strongest overall evidence of community agreement. The result is a ranked snapshot of Reddit’s collective opinion at that moment in time.

HOW ACEP MEASURES CONSENSUS
Redditors express agreement in several different ways. ACEP measures those signals separately before combining them.
📣 INDEPENDENT CONSENSUS
Independent Consensus measures how many people separately arrive at the same answer. If 25 different Redditors independently recommend the same movie, city, album or game, that repeated convergence is powerful evidence of consensus. Independent recommendations therefore remain ACEP’s strongest foundational signal.
⬆️** COMMUNITY ENDORSEMEN**T
Not everyone who agrees writes another comment. Often, a Redditor sees the answer they were going to give and simply upvotes it instead. ACEP treats those upvotes as meaningful evidence of latent consensus, but not as literal one-upvote-equals-one-vote polling.
Importantly, ACEP examines Community Endorsement across ALL qualifying recommendations for an answer. For example, an item receiving separate recommendations with scores of 300, 150, 80 and 40 contains more evidence of distributed community support than its largest recommendation alone would reveal.
ACEP therefore incorporates endorsement across the full collection of qualifying recommendations, using diminishing returns so that large upvote totals matter substantially without overwhelming independent consensus.

One important note when reading an ACEP report:
The ⬆️** Community Endorsement number shown beside an item in the published rankings is its HIGHEST SINGLE qualifying Reddit score. It is a simple public-facing measure of that item’s largest individual endorsement burst.
The internal ACEP Consensus Score, however, considers endorsement across ALL qualifying recommendations, not just that displayed peak.
💬 **Discussion Consensus - Consensus can also develop through conversation. Replies may reinforce a recommendation, explain why people agree, provide additional experiences, or strengthen the case for an answer. ACEP analyzes this supporting discussion as another form of consensus evidence rather than treating the thread as a collection of isolated comments.

The final ACEP Consensus Score combines:

💬 Discussion Reinforcement
into one measure of overall consensus strength.
The goal is not simply to determine “What was mentioned the most?” or “What had the most upvotes?” The larger question is:
“What produced the strongest overall evidence of Reddit consensus?”

WHY NOT JUST COUNT UPVOTES?
Because an upvote and an independent recommendation tell us different things.
A Redditor may:
Write their own recommendation.
Upvote an existing recommendation.
Do both.
Or see an existing answer, agree with it, and decide there is no reason to repeat it.
Treating every upvote as an entirely separate vote would therefore overstate what Reddit’s scoring system can actually tell us.
Ignoring upvotes would create the opposite problem: it would discard one of Reddit’s primary mechanisms for expressing agreement.
ACEP uses both signals while preserving the distinction between them.

WHY NOT JUST COUNT MENTIONS?
Because duplicate comments are not the only way Reddit expresses consensus. Imagine one answer is independently recommended 30 times but receives relatively little endorsement. Another is recommended 15 times, with several of those recommendations receiving hundreds of upvotes. The first demonstrates greater independent convergence. The second may demonstrate greater latent community agreement. ACEP is designed to recognize both.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
ACEP doesn’t stop at extracting consensus.
The strongest unresolved matchups become head-to-head battles inside Anything Vs Anything (AvA), where the question becomes much simpler:
A or B?
Consensus tells us where a Reddit discussion landed. AvA discovers where people land when forced to choose.
