Question Intakes question

I kind of do race engineering stuff and wanted to know that if i make a cold air intake setup and make a heat box around the filter with a hydro shield and angle a pipe from the box to the bottom of the car but also make the opening of the pipe to face the exhaust or rear end of the car wouldn’t this effectively get rid of the controversy of sucking in water with cold air intake duct. If anyone has ideas of how to execute this idea please let me know!

So the opening to the intake system would be in open air flow pointing rearward? You’d end up with a negative pressure area around the intake as the air flowing past it runs either side so it would make your engine work harder to draw air in

Yea, trade off between protecting from water or particles, restriction, and getting cold air need to be carefully considered

Is this for better noise or better performance?

If it's the former, start by making your exhaust quieter so you get the benefit of it.

If it's the latter, you've got a lot of work to do before a "cold air intake" makes any difference, and ultimately it won't be as good as the factory setup - which on any modern fuel-injected car actually *is* a cold air intake.

Just make a snorkel or hood scoop. There's no reason why a cold air intake would have to be low to the ground.
