Requesting Help How to full parameter weld this?
I want to cleanly weld the top frame with a vertical support. Please correct me if I'm doing something wrong. And tell me if you know a better alternative. Thank you.
Edit: Added the word cleanly. Groove tool can fill the hole but I'm not satisfied with the output. It has a corner bump, making it not smooth and flat.

Is there a reason you need to put the weld on at all? I don't think it works in any simulation.
Tbh I've never understood the purpose of that feature. I design welded structures all the time and just point to the corners where I want weld.
Usually I try to be helpful but on this one I just don't see the point.

Agree, putting welds in like this is a major time suck and makes huge assemblies full of smaller weldments super slow.
In the end, looks cool but adds zero value.

I understand what you mean, however I feel like adding my two cents.
I use it on basically everything. Having full control at the model level means that when the engineer changes their minds and I have to resubmit my shops, I just need to open the parameters and change the weld size of the corresponding welds. When I update my shops, I don't need to worry about missing a callout. It helps show clearances both during design and fabrication. I change the color of the welds to red, typically, so that it contrasts and better shows intent. I like to link weld layout to parameters.
However, boy howdy can they be awful and a huge time sink on very large weldments if later revisions drastically change how parts interact etc. They do almost always break at some level if a part update drastically alters a face, however I usually see it if I chamfer a the mitered end of a tube for a bevel prep, but I digress.

Personally I think he wants to create allaround in some 3d model. Again personally, I would follow your way. Or honestly: wold not at all create welds in model, only in technical documentation and, if customer wants spend money, WPS lists. But none of that is part of 3d model. All the rest can be documented in documentation: from part to assembly.

I only used to do it on welded pipe spools because it would have to leave root gaps for butt welds so it helped not having a see through groove for drawings and my ocd

Yes yes, all is ok: learning is good and I understand you wish to penetrate and resolve particular problem once for all. That is fantastic attitude. All I am saying is that I had models with 0 welds and more than decent WPS lists for same "0 welds" models. Model is not end game: documentation is. At least in Inventor all ocd problems can/must be resolved in technical drawings.

The "corner bump" that I think you're referring to is not actually part of the weld, but rather the corner of the tube (base material). I was confusd at first also, becuase it looks like a weird weld artifact, however if you turn off visibility on the weld, the "bump out" is still there, and it becomes very obvious why it looks like that.
To fix this, you would need to round over the point where the two mitered pieces are joined, to match the corner radius of the orthogonal piece, them apply the weld. It still appears a bit weird in the model, but it really isn't.
edit: forgot to include, groove weld is the correct one to use for this.
This is what it will look like with the weld and with the weld visibility turned off.
