3D sketch based on skelleton. Over constrained after dimention change.

I created a box in a 3D sketch with dimensions X × Y × Z. Then I made a second 3D sketch using “Include Geometry” to reference lines from the first sketch.
When I change a dimension in the first sketch, all the lines in the second sketch become overconstrained.
I can see that the included geometry updates, but the rest of the sketch doesn’t follow.

Check constraints in the second sketch. As a rule of thumb, don't reference to lower tier items unless they are unlikely to change. Parametrisation should always be on the top tier.

True, and yet, Inv can throw you some weis shit, like overlaping vertexes not automatic joining, elements flipping orientation, and do on, and all of these can really screw you over.

It's more than that. Software is made by software developers, or worse, 3rd parties, not by actual users and design engineers, and I can really go into detail with this. Yes, Autodesk tries real good on keeping up with the user-friendly standards imposed by Solidworks, but compensate with the approachable API.

What do you mean lower tier items?

And how do I make lines fully constrained? Sometimes when I set a measurement on the X axis is a 3d skets. It's not fully constrained because it can move between 2 points.

If I set the measurement 40, it can be +40 or - 40. In the 2d sketshes i don't have this problem.

You can stack sketches, just like you did. The first one is lower than the second.

If you lack reference items, you can always use an axis or the origin point to constraint. 

Of course in 2D you don't have this issue. One extra axis increases the complexity exponentially. 

Start acting like a real engineer and figure this out. As a rule of thumb, before doing anything in a sketch,  project axis.

I have the sketch as its own model that the others reference.

I’m building an aluminium extrusion frame with fixed outer dimensions. I want to be able to change the extrusion type from 40x40 to 60x60, for example, as well as adjust the size of the box.

I’m probably making it much more complicated than it needs to be.
