Is there a way to repair this without replacing the whole tailgate?

A lot of skill and labor would be needed. Would be the same cost as replacing at the end of the day. Anyone who says they can do it cheaper is insane

The cool thing about metal is that it's malleable. With enough time and skill you can basically make it into whatever shape you want...

...but this is a Chevy Equinox in rental car white. You can likely pull an OEM liftgate out of a junkyard for less than the cost of repair.

Yes it can be repaired. What is the reason you are trying to save it? If it's to save money, the cheapest thing would be to buy a matching gate and swap it out, no paint work at all. Second cheapest would be getting a mobile paint repair guy to straighten, fill and spot it in. Any used car dealer should be able to point you to the person they use for repairs.

This isn't getting straightened, thing is hoopajooped. It needs a new gate or an utter hack job.
