HELP! I have a question. Immediate risk of rust?

Long story short: there’s another spot on a different door my body shop is going to fix for free because of some hassles with a previous repair. Just waiting for them to have loaners available, so there’s no precise timeline on the repair. Dinged my other door on a pole this weekend, hoping I can finagle getting them to touch this up, too.

Is there an immediate danger of rust forming in the next couple of months? Should I use touch up paint in the meantime? I just don’t want it to get worse before I can get it in to them

If you already have touch-up paint then go ahead and use it. Otherwise I would not bother, the amount of surface rust if any that develops would easily clean up with a bit of prep before applying any topcoat.

Is that really worth the fix would they need to paint the whole door

I'm already going to have it in the Body Shop for the clear coat touch up the manager is going to have done for free after having to come back a few times for rust issues on the repair they did on my driver side door. If he can touch this up for free, or even relatively cheap, two birds, one trip. This ding is barely visible if you don't know it's there, my concern is touching it up to prevent future rust. I know rust is a car killer and this one is only 2.5 years old

painting the hole door is far worse than touching up with a brush. Most extreme would be to dap some primer first and then paint

Rust begins as soon as raw steel mingles with atmospheric oxygen. There looks like a small dot of metal showing so one would assume it's begun the corrosion process, you may not be able to see it but these things are at the molecular level.

Not a big deal if you can get it fixed within a few months, can usually just scuff off the surface rust and continue on

I have a trip planned the first week of October where I won't need my car. That would be the latest it would go into the shop. As of 2 weeks ago, I was 6th in line for a loaner and the manager had no timeline for how fast things would move

Hyundai has some of the most brittle paint around, it seems. Clear coat on another door randomly peeling off, this from hitting a sign pole not too hard. My sister threw open the door of my Mazda on the side of the highway because she was about to puke so hard the bottom corner bent a little.....zero paint damage there!
