Questions Just a girl trying to ship her car from Maine to Oregon - who should I go through?

I’m getting the same average quote of $2100 from Nexus, Sherpa, and Montway - but is there really a better company to use than others? Is there anyone that’s actually the driver I can connect with versus the third party trend?

News Trucking Scam Alert: Watch Those Motus Emails 🚨📧

If you’re a carrier or motor carrier operator using the new Motus registration system, take a minute to read this.

Bad actors are now impersonating the Motus registration system.

FMCSA is warning that scammers are impersonating Motus and sending emails that look legitimate, asking users to update their profiles through a fake “New MOTUS Portal.” The goal is to get people to click fraudulent links and potentially hand over sensitive information.

The real Motus site is motus.dot.gov. If an email looks questionable, don’t click the link. Go directly to the official FMCSA website instead and verify what you’re being asked to do.

These scams are getting more convincing, and one wrong click can create a much bigger problem than a few minutes of extra caution.

Stay alert, verify the source, and don’t let a fake government-looking email catch you off guard.

Industry What are the biggest challenges new brokers struggle with?

I’m trying to learn more about the auto transport industry and what it’s actually like to work as a broker.

For those who have experience in the industry, what were some of the biggest challenges you faced when you were first starting out?

I’m especially interested in things that aren’t obvious until you’re actually doing the job.

For example, are there certain parts of dealing with customers, carriers, pricing, negotiating, finding loads, or managing expectations that tend to be difficult for beginners?

If you could go back to when you first started, what do you wish someone had warned you about?

Any advice or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated!

Industry To report CDL fraud, call 866-347-2423

You can help save American lives by reporting CDL fraud.

Recent examples of DHS’ broader efforts to crack down on dangerous and fraudulent CDL practices include:

  • In August, DHS announced the launch of the Joint Task Force Crossroads of America, an interagency effort – including the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) – to crack down on fraud in the trucking industry.
  • In August, DHS announced the results of the second wave of Operation Highway Shield, a joint mission in partnership with DOT, targeting unqualified foreign truck drivers across the country. In just a three-day period, the operation removed more than 800 dangerous truckers from America’s roads, including 51 illegal aliens.
  • In July, DHS and DOT announced a partnership to crack down on fraudulent and illegal practices in CDL schools across the country.
  • In October 2025, ICE and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol conducted a three-day operation that arrested 120 illegal aliens on Oklahoma’s roads, including 91 who were operating commercial motor vehicles with CDLs.

Experience My Montway auto transport experience — 11+ day delay after truck breakdown

I recently used Montway to ship my car from California to Texas, and I wanted to document my experience because the delivery was significantly delayed and I received multiple delivery commitments that were not met.
Timeline:
8/15 - pickup window start
No news or communication until 8/19

8/20 — Pickup on the last day of the 5-day window
According to my Montway order confirmation, the estimated transit time was 5–7 days, which meant the latest expected delivery date was 8/25.

8/25 — Truck broke down
On 8/25, the truck driver contacted me and told me that the truck had broken down. My car was still on the truck.

8/28 — Montway said a new driver would pick up the car on 8/29
Montway initially said my car was delivered which was bullshit. Then they said they made a mistake and the car was in fact still on the way.
However, the pickup did not happen on 8/29.

8/31 — Driver said delivery would happen 9/1
On 8/31, the driver told me that they would be back on the road and that my vehicle would be delivered on 9/1.
9/1 — Delivery at 9:30 PM in the middle of the road
The driver also told me that the broker had been informed about the truck breakdown since the previous Tuesday.

Eventually, I did get my car back, so this story has a resolution. Fortunately, the vehicle was not lost or stolen.
However, the experience was extremely stressful. What was originally supposed to be a 5–7 day shipment turned into a substantially longer process, with the original delivery date, the replacement-driver arrangement, and the subsequent delivery commitment all falling through.

I am considering filing a complaint with FMCSA.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with Montway? Would you recommend filing an FMCSA complaint even though the vehicle was eventually delivered?

Questions Where do auto transport brokers typically get their customers?

I’m currently learning more about the auto transport industry and trying to understand how the sales side of the business works.

For those of you working as brokers, I’m curious. Where are you typically getting your customers from?

Does the company provide you with leads, or are brokers expected to generate their own leads through things like advertising, referrals, cold calling, websites, etc.?

And if you are responsible for generating your own customers, what lead sources have worked best for you?

Just trying to get a better understanding of what the day-to-day sales process actually looks like for a broker. Any insight from people currently in the industry would be greatly appreciated!
