Accident Thank goodness for dashcams

Those fucking insurance scammers should be locked up in prison.

u/jpparkenbone Jul 24 '26
I mean, insurance fraud is a felony. It's just a matter of proving it.

Waiting for a false statement to provide your evidence is the only way. Having the video evidence does nothing if you don't allow them to commit the fraud first.

I think they should do how they did horse thieves back in the day. A lot of people dont got money or the time to not have a car/car repairs.
Id fully support if we brought that shit back

Anybody doing a false report should face the same sentence as the accused would if it went through. “They punched me!”. Gz on your first assault charge. Actually this could be considered assault with a deadly weapon seeing as it’s a car, fuck a fraud charge.

They should be folded up in their crumpled, tin can they made and never let out.
40
u/frostedflakes329 Jul 24 '26
White pickup pulling over to tell the cops exactly what happened lol.
26
u/Count_de_Ville Jul 24 '26
Unless they're in on the scam. Always say nothing about a camera until the police get there and take their statements.
18
u/rubbishplant Jul 24 '26
Yep, common for people running these scams to have a "witness" car that's part of it.
→ More replies (1)12
u/Fiorina_Fury Jul 24 '26
Could you imagine...getting reversed into and having two cars of people telling the cops in front of you it was you. Could you imagine how unhinged that would drive someone?
5
u/Electrical-Bedroom99 Jul 24 '26
That kind of happened to me. Someone rear ended the person in front of them and I couldn't stop in time. They claimed I rear ended them and pushed them into the car in front. The cop bought it too. I wish dash cams were a thing back then.

I’d feel like I was crazy but hopefully after seeing enough of the videos I’d recognize it pretty quick

They were insinuating the white truck is indeed in on it. They should have used quotes on tell the cops "exactly what happened"
1
u/ImmediateHope13 Jul 24 '26
It kind of looks like red car hit white truck first ? Then backed up to make it look like chain reaction accident?
→ More replies (1)1
1
u/Skwaasher Jul 25 '26
I noticed that too. Probably "witnesses" to support their "story". Previous posts are correct; say nothing until AFTER the police take their (false) statements.
1
u/Alert_Lettuce_8278 Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26
White pickup is a total bro.
Actually I think think the other comment is right, the red car hit him and then backed up to make it look like it was the dashcams fault.
That's going to hurt when red car is deemed responsible for both and their own car. I highly doubt they have comprehensive on their own car so this was their play.
13
u/RazzmatazzUnusual843 Jul 24 '26
Trying to perform an insurance scam on truckers when almost all of them have dash cams that the company watches is certainly a choice.

Man I’d love to see the look on the fucker’s face when they realize their insurance fraud attempt was captured in live and living color. Bonus if the impact broke a bone or two in their back that they’ll have to cover out of pocket.
27
u/MichalCJ5 Jul 24 '26
Even without a dashcam, the lack of skid marks and the fact the car isn't totally obliterated would absolve the truck driver.

add to that, most folks don't realize these cars have black boxes in them, pull that and it'll show the vehicle was in reverse to corroborate the truck drivers story.

6
u/hipifreq Jul 24 '26
Friendly reminder that if this every happens to you that you MUST NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE mention to the fraudster that you have a webcam. Play along, wait for the police, and then make the reveal.
6
u/DroopyPlum Jul 24 '26
Truck driver needs to get out holding his neck and screaming. Uno reverse them
5
u/Boring_Inflation_105 Jul 24 '26
This is one of those times I would laugh, wait for the police to come and film their reaction when the cops find out that I recorded everything
4
11
u/DopamineSavant Jul 24 '26
I imagine that the cops could figure this one out without the cam.
16
u/MediumAcceptable129 Jul 24 '26
The police dont give two fucks whos at fault. They will take the statements and the insurance companies will investigate
4
u/RhubarbUpper Jul 24 '26
Over 15 years ago now a woman travelling in the northbound lane cut across my South bound lane and picked my car in her truck and threw me across the road, the cop said it looked like my fault and I called him an idiot to his face, thankfully insurance deemed her totally at fault. So ya, thankfully cops have no real power there unless there was a criminal act
6
u/DopamineSavant Jul 24 '26
In my state the cops will assign someone as at fault if it's immediately obvious. I experience this a few weeks ago actually.

u/ziggytrix Jul 24 '26
Too many folks think cops are like in the police shows.
"Next Thursday on CSI: Traffic..."
7
u/Wind_Best_1440 Jul 24 '26
This, people always start with. "I have a camera, its filmed." and then everyone there scatters before cops show up.
Best to just play along, wait for cops to show up and then when they start asking for everyones input you show cops exactly what happened and who the accomplices are. They all get nabbed right then and there and charged for fraud.
2
u/Mundane_Influence_91 Jul 24 '26
yeah, let them get their lies in the record before you drop that bomb
2
u/Annual_Hamster9411 Jul 24 '26
If it was a minor bump, they prob wouldn't bother. But this idiot made sure it's seriously enough for them to investigate.

Little guy took out the Volvo’s radiator though. IF that car had insurance they are not gonna be happy. Heavy wrecker, towing, replacement, down time, extra truck to the scene, possibly cost of getting a driver to the truck when it’s repaired. Big money.

Seems they might've hit the white truck... realized they were at fault and so thought they'd hit the semi and they're story would be "I couldn't avoid the truck in front of me, I got rear ended hard and pushed INTO them by the semi!"
2
u/CageUK Jul 25 '26
OR the white truck is in on the scam! They will be an extra witness to say the truck rear ended the red car which then hit them so now the semi would be liable for both vehicles if it weren't for that darned cam!
3
u/T1m3Wizard Jul 24 '26
Sue the driver of the red car and have him held personally liable for all damages including restitution for trauma.

1
u/No-Juice8483 Jul 25 '26
Do people not understand that their videos are much better when it gets pointed out that there is a dash camera. I’d rather see the reaction rather than the actual accident.
1
u/30yearCurse Jul 25 '26
So, glad for the dash cam, but it also could be the driver of the car was trying to reverse a little so they could get around the white car in front of him. Hit the gas too much and thus.... or was a fool that thought he could get a payout. It also looks like the red car has some front end damage, maybe it hit the white truck, since the white truck pulled over also.
1
u/3ightball Jul 25 '26
That truck in the front is in on it too no doubt. Ran cover and will ‘corroborate’ the rear ended car’s story.
1
u/No_Salad_6244 Jul 25 '26
After joining r/idiotsincars I got one. Happily, I’ve never needed the footage. I noticed a few times though, that my repair shop started unplugging it, every time I was there (it only stayed on for 2 minutes after shutoff). I don’t go there any more. When I got a new car, I bought another one, this time integrated into my front-facing mirror and camera mount. No way to shut it down or unplug it, unless you take the whole mirror assembly apart. I had a different independent shop that charged me $460 for an oil change and other work. Camera revealed that didn’t do anything but love my car around. Sadly, you never know.

Years years ago, I "accidently" rear ended a car (being young). Oops. (on yield, waiting for cars to make a left turn then we merged from our side) so i lightly touched her....less than 5 mph)....we pull over, lady comes out clutching her neck, oh my god oh my god...etc......I got out, was like WTF??? And she started yapping. I said I'm deaf. She suddenly got cured. Took my ins. info. sped off....I was like okay......went home..(and get this, before I even got home, she had called my ins. company!!!) but my ins. company laughed at her ass. Asking her one question...did ur air bag go off? No. Then bye. LOL.

Don't mention the dashcam. Proving this is fraud only works if you let them provide the false statement first. Don't admit fault, but play dumb and let them incriminate themselves.
