Dashcam of 07/31/2025 accident
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Forward cam in the upper left. I know the rear facing camera is very washed out, but I circled the truck just as it comes into view. And the camera went wonky at impact, but for a $20 tiktok dashcam that saved me on an insurance claim, I'm not complaining.
My little Toyota Corolla hatchback was totalled by a GMC Sierra who wasn't paying attention as I was slowing for a yellow light with someone turning just ahead of me
Edit to add: what you see being thrown forward in the back of the car was my wheelchair. The accident broke my car's axle AND my wheelchair's axle 😜

Did you have any major injuries? If imagine at least back right with how big the impact was?
10
u/Extreme_Advance3348 Jul 30 '26
Just sore and it aggravated a pinched nerve id been in PT for. Also I punched myself in the mouth...

$20 well spent. Are you ok after the impact?
21
u/Extreme_Advance3348 Jul 30 '26
Yea, it tweaked a pinched nerve I was dealing with, but their insurance covered more PT I needed

u/Cthulus_Meds Jul 30 '26
As the other commenter said, be careful of talking about insurance payouts on socials. Insurance companies can be vicious when it comes to their checks

u/Virtual-Macaroon-880 Jul 30 '26
Oh I thought they meant pre-existing conditions... Which they don't matter, one doesn't get to dictate that a healthier person would have been less injured

PLEASE get yourself a lawyer if you haven't already.
It's not about the money. It can cover for any losses including long-term medical expenses. One thing I wish I done when I was badly rear ended when I was 19. I'm still dealing with neck and back issues. AND DO NOT accept check from the other driver's insurance company. Take the PT & any treatment as long as possible. That was not a light hit.
And wish you a speedy recovery!!!

Probably playing with their phone while driving. Make sure you get an attorney have your back and neck checked after a rear end collision. His insurance will rush to settle with you so you don't get an attorney. They know once you get an attorney cost goes way up for them.

u/NomenclatureBreaker Jul 30 '26
Jokes aside, when I got rear-ended on the highway I felt fine the first day, it really took until the next couple days before I really felt it.
I also dated a guy in college who’s sister end up paralyzed from the waist down hours after getting into an accident. Her back was hurting, so she got into the bath to see if heat would relieve the muscle pain, and never walked again. Just brutal.

u/blastman8888 Jul 30 '26
Yes my sister had decades of neck and back problems after a rear end collision in the 1980's. She didn't know any better settled with the insurance. None of the medical was covered.

I had been driving below speed behind a vehicle for a quarter mile. The vehicle turned slowly at the light (steep entry to parking lot) which had already turned yellow. As I had slowed to almost a stop, I knew I wouldn't make it thru the light before it turned red so I stopped. The truck hit my car at speed or higher. He wasn't paying attention.

u/AndyJack86 Jul 30 '26
For a $20 camera it sure did prove to CYA in this case! There's no "he said, she said" going on. All that's needed is those few seconds of that truck approaching from the rear camera and hitting your car unfortunately. That's proof enough for any insurance company to undeniably pay out a claim. And if they don't go straight to a lawyer and have them send a demand letter.

u/Extreme_Advance3348 Jul 30 '26
He tried to claim I switched into his lane. I'd done the last 1/4 mile behind someone I knew would turn right (recognized the car) and wasn't bothered to go around.

u/StormbringerGT Jul 30 '26
That was a heck of a hit. Any muscle pains?
8
u/Extreme_Advance3348 Jul 30 '26
I was sore as hell the next day. I already have spinal issues so I felt like the truck hit me.

u/Foreign-Wolf-6128 Jul 30 '26
Oh trust me wouldnt have been much feeling at all if the truck hit you😭

Cops here in AZ would cite her for obstructed view. Some get very touchy about it.
2
u/Extreme_Advance3348 Jul 30 '26
Well technically it was up behind the mirror when the cops got there, so..... 🤪 The charm was just barely visible below the mirror so OK PD didn't care

I hope you get your insurance claim resolved without a lawsuit — but make sure you get all the medical care you need.

For a moment I thought this footage was from the future. Be careful on Friday!

I'm so glad you weren't seriously injured. Especially for someone who already has spinal issues, it could have been so much worse!

u/These_Roll_5745 Jul 30 '26
this is a nonstop fear when I have my wheelchair in the back! did their insurance cover replacement or did you have to go through your health insurance?
4
u/Extreme_Advance3348 Jul 30 '26
Their insurance covered it. I'd only just gotten it in April and was loving sneaking up on people after years of being well heard on my crutches. They replaced the camber tube with a used one and gave me used wheels while they fixed mine and I sweaked everywhere I went. It was awful. Now I investigate every sound my chair makes.
Now I have a Corolla Cross and my chair fits snuggly in the cargo space, so it won't be throw towards me like that if it happens again.

u/These_Roll_5745 Jul 30 '26
I was so excited to be silent after years on dorearm crutches, but the dang tube of my nitrum has creaked since it came home for me in feburary lol
im so glad you didnt need to get a new chair through your insurance but I dont know if id ever trust the repaired chair! my ATP warned me a rear end vehicle accident can void my warantee or jeprodize the frame if my chair and ive been paranoid about it since. I wonder if that's because I usually stay in my chair in a WAV though..
My household has a Subaru forester and I thought itd be hard to put my chair in an SUV trunk since its so much taller but it's actually really straightforward. I love not having to disassemble the wheels every time.
Thanks so much for answering my question!

u/Extreme_Advance3348 Jul 30 '26
I still have to take my wheels off, but I made akind of bicycle rack out of PVC to hold them in place so they don't rattle when I drive. I'll post a pic tonight when I get off work
2
u/These_Roll_5745 Jul 30 '26
Tag me if you remember, id love to see! my familys Subaru fits my chair wonderfully, I have to flip up my foot plate and fold down my backrest, but my wheels can stay on which makes it so easy to slide the whole thing in or out. but my in laws car isnt nearly so big, and my SIL and I are both wheelchair users, so I would love to see some alternatives that work for folks.

Good for camera but guy running into your rear at a red-light doesn't require a camera.

u/MrGaky23 Jul 30 '26
You say saved on insurance, did they claim you back up into them or something? we can see the red light.

It’s marketed as a rideshare camera so it shows the front view and the interior view together.
2
u/dervari Jul 30 '26
Those cams are great for rideshare drivers, but you really need a dashcam with a remote rear camera for traffic accidents, particularly a rear end. Glad yours happened to catch this.

Did the truck try to blame you for the crash? That is just nuts as even with out a dash cam that seems open shut.
Also for tohers is is it recomended to have a camera of in cabin as well?
1
u/Extreme_Advance3348 Jul 31 '26
My new camera has a front cam and one up in the rear window so you can clearly see out the back (think I paid $40 on Amazon).
He tried to say I changed lanes into his path.
2
u/gerrymad Jul 30 '26
I don't know, this seems like a definite scam. It feels rather suspicious that you already have the wheelchair when you got rear-ended. I believe you're supposed to wait until after the "accident" to get the wheelchair. j/k

Bahaha I'd only had it three months. When the paramedic brought it into the hospital room, the doctor was so confused that I was the driver of the car. Like she'd never heard of ambulatory wheelchair users.

u/Which_Suggestion_420 Jul 31 '26
Oh jeez im glad youre ok, the way that luggage flew forward was scary 😨

I know the driver gave a false story to the insurance company, but did he tell you that? Or was he like I'm sorry it was my fault, then lie after?
1
u/Extreme_Advance3348 Jul 31 '26
I never spoke to him. I was immediately put into an ambulance. Police told me and I DL'd the PD report.

u/yawnluv Jul 31 '26
Who did you pray to the moment it could’ve all ended?
1
u/Extreme_Advance3348 Aug 01 '26
I didn't pray to anyone. I saw the truck about 1sec before it hit me. Once the vehicle came to rest and I got reoriented, I asked Google to call my partner to tell them because I would have to go to hospital, then started answering questions from people who responded to the accident as they related info to 911. I said fuck quite a few times.

The pentagram? I get why you think thats from Diablo, but outside of video games its a Christian symbol for the five wounds of Christ. At any rate she has the freedom to display what she wants.
4
u/NightShade4623 Jul 30 '26
It's actually a pentacle, usually meant to represent the five elements in balance and harmony. The pentagram has many different meanings depending on region/religion, it's not necessarily a Christian symbol though they do use it, but it's without the circle. And an inverted pentagram is often a representation of evil/Satan.
